“Yes.”

He smiles at me, eyebrows up. “So it’s both? When your drivers hit me earlier today and called you Princess, that was you?”

“What?”

“You don’t remember?”

“I remember a small accident – that really was you?” I gasp. So I didn’t invent him? He really was that same man?

“In the flesh. Your boys gave me two grand to shut up. Who are you?”

“Cam, I - ” Nervous, I don’t know what to do with his words. Jason and Malcolm must have hid Cam from me when the accident happened. “Did you get hurt?”

“I’m fine. You aren’t though.”

“What?”

“Are they keeping you prisoner?”

“Prisoner?”

“Are you here against your will?”

“Will?”

“Where’s Rudy? Your husband.”

He says the word husband with such intense sarcasm I want to cry.

“Rudy? He’s, um...” I scramble for an answer. “He left me.”

“Left you?”

“Cheated on me.”

Ravenous eyes look at me, combing over my body with a slow tease that makes me wish I were naked and we were alone.

“I highly doubt that, Princess. No heterosexual man in his right mind would ever leave you.”

“He did. He is gone. For good,” I emphasize.

Cam’s eyes flare with intelligence. Does he understand what I mean?

My senses are on edge.

“Please, Cam. I’m glad you’re not hurt. But you have to leave.”

“I’m not going anywhere if you’re here against your will.”

“I’m not! I’m here because I want to be. Of course I do.”

“Of course?”

“Yes! I’m – I’m fulfilled here.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

I am a queen. A queen. He cannot – will not – speak to me this way.
