Poor Dylan has never had a man around, other than this past week with the club and when we’ve spent time with Falcon. I want them to have it all, but not at the risk of it only being temporary.”
“I might not have had kids of my own, but I do know what it takes. I’ve seen enough over the years with the Warriors to know what they put into it and how much it takes. It’s nothing less than I would expect or be prepared to do. If you and I are together, then those kids become mine. I will be a father to them, Tonya. I will love, protect, and guide them, just like you do. They don’t have to be born from my DNA for me to do that. I believe this is something that will continue to grow between us. I don’t see us growing apart or ending this. I see it going the whole goddamn way if you’ll only allow it.”
“What does ‘all the way’ mean?”
“It means, hopefully, I’ll join the Warriors soon as a member and you’ll end up becoming my old lady. It means for now you’d be my girlfriend and when the time is right, we’d get married. It means that if you so choose to allow it, we’ll have more children, although that isn’t a must have. If you don’t want to have more kids, I understand. It means that from this moment forward, you and those kids become my first priority. I love the club and really enjoy my job, but they will always come after my family. It’s how I’m made.”
Her stunned expression made me smile. I was laying it all out. Maybe I should’ve eased into it and held some things back until later. Maybe I was risking it all by being too honest, bold and open, but this was me. This way there would be no misunderstandings later.
“Are you sure you’re feeling alright? Are you drunk?”
I couldn’t hold in the laugh. I hadn’t had a drop to drink. “No, I’m not drunk. I feel more than fine. What about you? You’ve been drinking wine. I could taste it.”
“I’ve had two glasses. I’m feeling good but I’m not drunk,” she protested.
“Good, then we’re both in control of our faculties. Tell me, after hearing all that, will you give us a chance at having a happy life together? I need to know. Will you be mine and take this totally insane trip with me?”
Her answer surprised me. She reached up to grip the back of my head and she brought my mouth down to hers. I held onto her wrists. This time, she was the one to take the lead in our kiss. I gladly went with her. It was true, I tended to prefer to lead in the bedroom, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t and wouldn’t allow her to do the same occasionally.
