“What will you do with him?”

“I won’t be calling the cops, that’s for sure. This will be handled by me and the club. Now, get back in the car and let’s go home. We’ll load these fools into their car and bring it back. Later, we’ll get rid of it so no one will know what happened to it or them. That’s all I’m going to tell you.”

I didn’t argue nor did I care what they did with those men, as long as they were no longer a threat to us. The ride back was tense. When we arrived at the compound, Soleil was dropped off at her house. Law had Lance drop us off at ours. He only came in long enough to make sure I was okay to be alone, then he told me he had to leave. I watched him head to the clubhouse. I couldn’t help but wonder who those men were and why they were so intent on killing us.

Law:

The fury that was coursing through my body was hard to contain. The fact that these bastards had made another attempt on Tonya and while we were with her infuriated me. I knew Falcon was pissed too. Soleil could’ve been killed too. That he wouldn’t forget or forgive either.

I kept my calm long enough to get Tonya back to the house and settled. After that, when I tore into the clubhouse, I was looking for blood. It looked like most of the club was gathered. It was almost the end of the workday. I didn’t waste time standing around. I headed straight to Terror. He saw me coming and nodded as he held up his hand.

“I know what you want and you’ll get it, Law. I had Lance, Ghost, and Gunner take the surviving bastard back to the Hole. They’ll make sure he’s very uncomfortable until we get there. Ghost will make sure he doesn’t bleed to death. Is Tonya okay? Falcon said Soleil is shaken but alright.” He gave a chin lift toward Falcon, who was scowling by the bar.

“She’s shook up and scared as you can imagine. It brought the memories of the other shooting back. I promised her that I’d make sure they wouldn’t hurt anyone again. I want to know who they work for. Something tells me they’re just the hired help, not the ringleaders.”

“I agree. They had a look about them. Am I correct to assume they’ll just disappear?”

“Damn right they will,” I growled.

“Well then, let’s not waste time. Let’s go see what our captive has to tell us.”

A roar of agreement went up. All of us marched out to our rides and headed toward the back section of the compound where we had the Hole. It was just a basic name for the place the club took people to torture information out of them and, more often than not, to kill them.

I rode at the head of the pack. Parking my bike, I rushed inside. The urge to spill blood was rising. The others were right behind me. Inside, I saw that they had stripped the guy down to his underwear. The hole in his side had been covered in a bandage, courtesy of Ghost. He was stretched out on a table they had moved into the center of the room. His arms and ankles were secured to it, so he was in a spread-eagle position. I walked up and stared down at him. I could tell by his expression he was in pain. Good. I pressed down on the wound, making him scream out.

“Don’t get too crazy on that yet. I stapled it back together to stop the bleeding. If he starts up again, I’ll have to cauterize it,” Ghost warned me.

“Go ahead and cauterize it. I have the feeling he’s going to need to hang in there for a while,” I growled as I tore off the bandage. We stood and watched as Ghost took a cauterizing tool out of one of the cabinets along the wall. It held the tools we used to extract information. A lot of them were Menace’s since he was the club’s enforcer. The smell of burning flesh was sickening, but hearing the man’s screams of pain was wonderful. Yes, I had a savage side to me.

Once Ghost was done, I looked at Terror. As president, he could order me to let Menace or the members take care of questioning this man, but I didn’t think he would. It was personal for me. Terror gave me a nod.

Menace came over to whisper in my ear. “You do whatever you need to do, but if you want to take a break or want us to help, just say the word, Law. We’re here for you and Tonya.”

“Thanks, Menace. I think I’ve got this, but I’ll let you know.”

Nodding, he stepped back to stand with the others with his arms crossed over his chest.

I picked up a bucket of water someone had set on the floor near the table. I poured some of it on our captive to wake him up. He’d passed out during the cauterizing of his wound. That didn’t bode well for his pain tolerance. I didn’t think it would take a whole lot to break him. Pity. He came awake, sputtering and choking. As he settled down, I hovered over him and stared into his eyes. I wanted him to see the hate and resolve there.

“Do you know who I am?”

He shook his head no, but there was something about his expression that told me he was lying. Reaching up, I grasped his head in both hands and banged it hard off the table a few times. He moaned.

“Let me ask you again. Do you know who I am? What my job is?”

“You’re Jake Cane and you’re a police officer in Dublin Falls,” he croaked.

“That’s right. And if you know that, I bet you know that the woman you shot a few weeks ago, the one who had her kids with her in the car, is my woman. I want to know why you targeted her. Who wants her dead and why?”

He looked away and didn’t answer. I pressed hard on his newly sealed wound. He howled in pain.

When he looked back at me, I continued, “The more you resist, the worse I’m going to hurt you. You’re going to die, that’s a given. You earned that fate when you shot Tonya. However, how much pain you have to endure before you die is up to you. Tell me what I want to know and I’ll lessen it. Your three friends are already dead. I suggest you talk.”

I saw fear on his face but there was also resolve. He wasn’t going to spill his guts easily. Did that make him a brave man or a fool? I didn’t know. All I knew was he would tell me what I needed to know to protect my family, no matter what had to be done to him to get it.

I didn’t waste time, I went over to the storage cabinet and looked at the selection we had. Most were what you’d think guys like us would have to torture and hurt someone. However, there were always some surprises too. At the moment, I wasn’t feeling inventive. I just wanted him to hurt and talk. I chose a wicked sharp knife that was about seven inches long. On one side of the blade it was smooth but on the other side, it was serrated. It was made to saw through things. As I walked back to the table with it, his eyes widened.

“Let’s start with something easy. What’s your name?”
