“Listen, I get it, I really do. Consider this. In the time we’ve stood here arguing,Fletcherhas already earned ten times the amount of money. In any case, he’s doing it for Olivia. Obviously,” Harper said, tugging.

Why did Harper say his name so weirdly?

Emma loosened her hold on the dress, but not completely.

Harper tugged again.

“I’ll have to pay him back,” she said.

“Good luck with that,” Addison replied. “Trust me, just accept it as the best gift you’ve ever received.”

Emma chewed her lip. “I could just go down to the mall and get something from Kate Spade.”

Thatwas within her budget.

For special occasions.

“Would it make you feel better if I paid for it?” Harper asked.

Emma shook her head and let out a small laugh. “You mean Daniel instead of Fletcher?”

“No, I mean me. It took me months to accept that it’sourmoney. I’m his wife. So, I’d be paying,” Harper said.

Wow.

Harper was right, and Emma had just offended her.

God, she was bad at this.

“You know, I’m just not comfortable with any of this. I’m going to wander down to the mall and meet you back at the house. Sorry, you guys. I know this is your life, but as much as this dress”—she handed it to the store assistant—“is the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen, it doesn’t feel right.”

Harper nodded.

Addison rubbed her arm. “We get it. Harper, don’t pressure her. We were sleeping with the Dufort men and still found it difficult.”

God, she felt so stupid.

Least of all because shewassleeping with one of them. Not that she was about to announce it.

“Sorry, Em’s. I’ll come with you,” Harper offered.

“No, that’s okay. I won’t be long.” Emma gave both girls a hug, apologized once more, and then slipped out of the store.

When she hit the sidewalk, she noticed Logan standing a few feet away, talking on his phone. His eyes met hers, and she gave him a smile, wandering in the direction of the mall they had passed on the way here.

The weight fell from her shoulders.

She pulled her phone out and shot Lily a message.

Crisis averted. I’m off to the mall.

Good idea. You’ll look beautiful no matter what you wear.

Ah, best friends. They were priceless.
