She looks angry. So fucking angry, and it so happens that angry is my favorite look on her.

“A deal is a deal, Neo.”

She’s right. A deal is a deal and I never back down when I strike one.

“You sure you wanna know?”

I’m biding time. This doesn’t feel as good as it’s supposed to. Not even close. Once I tell her, there is no going back. She will know and I will lose all my leverage. After today, both our lives will change forever.

“Hell yes, I wanna know. Now tell me, dammit.”

I could keep this secret. No one ever has to know. We can all go on pretending and the rest of The Blue Bloods would be none the wiser. Or I tell her and I shame her for an eternity.

She snaps impatiently. “Now, Neo!”

I draw in a deep breath and rest my lips against her ear. I’m not even looking at her and that was supposed to be half the gratification, but now, it doesn't feel very gratifying. Still, I say the words, “The reason I have to hate you, and always will have to hate you, is because you’re a half-breed, Scar. You’re not, nor will you ever be, a true Blue Blood.”

This doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t feel good at all.

ChapterNineteen

SCAR

The first wordsout of my mouth are, “Liar.” The second two—after I shove him back so I can see his face—are, “Shut up.”

He doesn’t say anything. He heeds my advice and he fucking says nothing! After letting words so hurtful fall from his mouth so carelessly, how dare he not say anything!

I can feel the evident crease in my forehead. In fact, it’s so pronounced that I’m certain it will be a permanent fixture on my face. “Why would you say something like that?”

My arousal is still dripping from his cock as he stands there, silently. His chin drops to his chest and I know it’s out of fear I’ll see the lie written all over his face.

“Tell me!” I slam the nightgown to the floor. “Now, Neo!”

His eyes lift slowly, his head still hung low. “I said it because it’s true. Your mom—”

“Shut up!” I scream again. I don’t want him to stop talking but I need the lies to stop. “Tell me the truth.”

Finally, he levels with me. "It is the truth!”

But he’s still lying. He wants to hurt me. That’s why he’s saying this. Neo can’t be trusted and this is proof. I just gave him my body, practically fed him my soul on a silver platter, all for him to feed my lies.

“We had a deal, dammit. Tell me what it is you think you know and tell me the truth, or so help me God.” I skim the room, searching for anything to aid my quest for the truth. My eyes land on a half-empty beer bottle on the nightstand. I snatch it up and dump the contents on the floor. Splatters hit my leg as the liquid makes contact with the hardwood.

“What the hell are you doing?” Neo reaches for the bottle, but I hold it back, before raising it in the air.

“Don’t try me, Neo. I will bust this bottle over your head right now, then I’ll use the broken glass to slice your dick, if you don’t tell me the truth right fucking now!”

He immediately cups his crotch and I’m certain we’re getting somewhere. “Put the damn bottle down, Scar.” I step forward, and he steps back. His shins bump the bed and he sits back down. “I’ll tell you, but don’t interrupt. Let me finish. Okay?”

I inhale profusely and speak on the exhale. “Go on.”

Neo looks past me. Maybe because he can't bear to look at me anymore. He got what he wanted from me and after this, I’ll be invisible to him.

“Your mom’s senior year of high school, she committed treason to The Society by having a relationship with an outsider.”

“Whoa. Now I know that’s a lie. My mom was with my dad her senior year.”

He lifts a scowling brow. “Can I finish?”
