I wave my hand, telling him to keep going.

“Now I don’t know all the details of the relationships with your dad and this guy, but I know your mom was caught by The Lawless and exposed to the entire school. This guy was set to be brought forward to tell his truth, but before he could, he went missing. In fact, he was said to be dead, but he never was. The case was brought to the local authorities by your mom, but The Elders silenced them, putting everything in a folder and tucking it away, never to be opened again.”

My mom went to the local authorities? This doesn’t make sense. My mom knows The Blue Bloods don’t involve outside law enforcement. “Why didn’t she just go to The Elders?”

“She did. She was a high school student, having a forbidden relationship with an outsider. No way in hell did they want this guy found, not to mention—”

My heart gallops at lightning speed. “Not to mention, what?”

“Who he is…or was?”

“Dammit, Neo. Just tell me. Who is this guy you claim my mom had a secret relationship with?” His mouth opens, but the words don’t come out. “Just tell me. Come on. Aren’t you enjoying this, Neo? It’s what you wanted all along. To blow up my world. So tell me. Who the fuck is he?”

“Believe it or not, Scar. I’m not enjoying this in the least. It wasn’t on my list of things to do today and now that the time to tell you is here, it’s not nearly as satisfying as I thought it would be.

My airways open, and I scream. “Who the hell was it?”

“It was…a Beckett.”

I gasp audibly, both hands clutching my chest. “No.”

Neo nods, reaffirming what he just said. “Your mom slept with Jeremy Beckett and got pregnant, then she slept with your dad and passed you off as his all these years. You’re the product of vengeance, Scar.”

“My dad isn’t my dad?” I mutter, not even believing it as the words leave my own mouth. “No. That’s not true.” I look at him again, waiting and hoping he’ll start laughing and say he’s fucking with me. “Where did you get this information?”

“My father told me when I was twelve. It was the day after I pulled your hair because you came into my room.”

“You pulled my hair countless times. You expect me to remember that?”

“No. But does it really matter when he told me? The fact is, he told me. He ingrained in my head that you were the enemy and that any sort of relationship with you would be lethal. So much so, he refers to you as a snake.”

I don’t understand why Sebastian would tell Neo such a thing. Does he really believe that I’m half Beckett, half Sunder? If he had any reason to believe Kol Sunder was not my dad, he’d tell him. They’re friends.

But they’re not friends. That’s another lie I’ve been led to believe my entire life.

“I have to go,” I blurt out.

Neo springs off the bed, following in my footsteps as I walk to the door. “Where are you going?”

I spin around, hands in the air. “I don't know. I have no fucking clue, Neo. But I have to go somewhere. I need to know the truth.”

“Hey, Scar,” Neo says, stopping me in my tracks while I grip the door handle. “For what it’s worth, I don’t wanna hurt you anymore. I’ll keep your secret if you want me to.”

I draw in a bumpy breath that rattles my chest. “Thanks,” I say, before opening the door and leaving.

* * *

“Crew!”I holler, pounding both fists on the wooden door of the dorm room they’ve been staying in. “Jagger! Please. Open up.” Draping my hair around my shoulders, I cover the golf ball sized hickey Neo left on my neck. I don’t know what the deal is with these guys and hickeys, but it has to be some sort of control thing.

The door rips open, and I throw myself into Crew’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

His fingers comb through my disheveled hair, while his other arm holds me close. “Baby, what’s wrong?”

“I…” I swallow down the saliva pooling in my mouth. “I’m…” I gulp and sputter and fight for breath. “Everything.”

Crew pulls back, his hands now cupping my cheeks. His head lowers slightly, so he can see my eyes. “What the hell did he do to you?”

“I think…I think he just ruined my life.”
