I’m surprised that there are only a few people in the pool. Cole must have decided not to mention their pool when he told people about the party. Only the few brave souls that seem to be skinny dipping are frolicking in the water.

I follow Todd to a secluded couch on the patio. It’s far enough away that the music isn’t so loud.

“I’ve been trying to find you since Garrett ripped you away from me earlier. What’s the deal there?” he asks.

“Nothing. He’s just pulling big brother duties,” I say, waving him off.

“Ahh, so you’re just like a little sister to him then?” he asks.

“Yeah, I guess so.” I lean back against the couch, thinking to myself that I should definitely not be having the thoughts I’ve been having about Cole if he’s supposed to be like a brother to me.

Not to mention Cam would murder me if she found out.

“You good?” Todd asks, putting his hand on my arm.

“Oh yeah, parties are just exhausting for me,” I tell him.

We sit in silence for a few minutes, but I don’t miss the fact that he’s been running his fingers across my skin. My breathing picks up, but it’s not because of Todd. It’s because, for the life of me, I can’t stop thinking about what it would feel like to wrap my lips around Cole like Monika was.

“I like you, Charlotte,” Todd whispers, and I’m brought back to a reality where I’m sitting here in the dark with Todd and not Cole.

“I like you too, Todd.” I smile over at him.

His eyes darken. “No, I mean I really like you. I’d like to take you out.” He leans a little closer to me, and I try to move away without making it too noticeable.

I’m just about to turn him down when a splash in the pool makes us both jump back.

“I’ll be back.” I jump up, running away from Todd.

I have to pull myself together. I don’t know why Cole has been getting under my skin lately, because he never has before. I turn down the first hallway to the left when I walk inside. I know there’s a library, a bathroom, and a small closet down this hall.

I open the closet door and pull it shut behind me. I just need a minute to breathe. I need to focus and figure out what the fuck is happening to me.

Maybe Cam is right. Maybe I do need to get laid.

The door opens and I back myself up against the coats, clamping my hand over my mouth to keep quiet.

“Princess, why are you hiding in the closet?” Cole's rough voice does something to me.

“How did you know I was in here?” I whisper in the dark.

“I watched you run down the hall and followed you,” he says, not moving from his spot.

“I needed some space,” I say.

“Did you enjoy the show?” he teases, and I know he’s talking about what happened in the kitchen earlier.

“No,” I lie.

“You didn’t enjoy watching Monika wrap her lips around my dick? You weren’t imagining it was you and not her?” he asks. It’s too dark, and I can’t see anything, but I can feel him––his arm brushes against me.

“You’re disgusting,” I say. My heart is pounding so loud I can hear it in my ears.

“I think you’re a little dirtier than people think, princess,” he says, and I imagine he’s smirking.

“Fuck off, Cole,” I whisper.

His hand brushes against my cleavage, and I swear it feels like my heart stops.
