A diamond ring was snuggled in the center of the box. It sparkled in the warm glow of the lights around them. When did he have time to get this?

Franco removed the ring from its cushion. Then, taking her left hand, he slid the ring on her finger.

It was a perfect fit.

Gerri, Violet thought. Gerri must’ve been involved in this part too. There was no other explanation for it.

Franco kissed Violet’s hand and stood before her. He took her into his arms again, but he need not have. Violet cupped Franco’s cheeks in her hands and pulled him forward. She covered his mouth with hers.

The kiss was intense, passionate, and brimming with emotions she never thought she’d experience until she met Franco. She no longer cared about the crowd before them. She no longer cared about the racers, sponsors, the restaurant, or anything else. In this one moment, it was just Franco and her … her fated mate and her, and she had Gerri to thank for all of it.

Once everything settled down, a group of waiters entered laden with trays and plates of food. Everyone took their seats and waited for their meals while murmurs of conversation and pleasantries buzzed through the room.

Violet had just enough time to glance at the ring on her finger and the man next to her before their plates arrived.

Steak, just as Franco had mentioned. And it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. She sliced off a bite and stuck it into her mouth, where the flavors melted across her taste buds.

TWENTY-TWO

VIOLET

She was staring at her ring the entire drive back to the hotel. She turned her finger, watching it sparkle under the lights. She wondered where he had found the time to buy it.

“You’ve been staring at your ring for most of the drive,” Franco stated, chuckling at her. “Do you like it that much?”

“Why wouldn’t I?” she whispered back at him, not taking her eyes off the ring.

That, and for a while, she never thought she was going to get married. But in just a matter of weeks, her world had turned upside down.

“It’s breathtaking,” she added. “It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

“No, you are,” he said, pulling into the hotel parking lot. “The ring just shows an ounce of how beautiful you are.”

She blushed, looking at him. She moved her hand, reaching out for his. She didn’t know how she had been so lucky to have him. “We are going to have to get you a ring.”

He nodded. “Yes, but that’s for another time.”

She leaned forward as he turned the car off. He looked at her, and she could still see the adrenaline running through him. From the race and winning the fight, he was on cloud nine.

“Today was a good day for you,” she said, unbuckling her seatbelt. She slid over the center console, climbing into his lap. Her tiger needed to be closer to him.

Her tiger had been aching to be near him, and after everything today, she needed to be in his arms. She thought she was going to lose him a few times.

Franco’s eyes widened, and his eyebrows rose. He smirked at her. “I like where this is headed.”

“You win your race, you win the fight, and you get engaged. Are you tired after all that?”

He shook his head, his hands sliding over her thighs. He cupped her legs, pulling her closer to him.

“Hell no,” he whispered, his mouth pressing against her neck. “Are you tired after everything today?”

She was, but not in the way he was thinking. She bounced with happiness. Her tiger wanted to take him. She’d waited a long time too.

“No,” she said, shaking her head. “No, I’m not.”

“So, neither of us is tired,” he cooed, kissing her neck. It sent a zing spiraling down her spine to her toes. She bit into her cheek, her mouth watering at his touch.

His thumbs swooped down, running dangerously close to her center. She bit her lip, looking down at him.
