I walkinto the kitchen and find a note propped up on the counter in front of a blueberry muffin. Picking up the paper, I read his words.

Good morning, beautiful.

The muffin is for you. Help yourself to juice or coffee.

I had to meet the guys at Murphy’s for a workout. I’ll be back before you go to work.

Smiling, my eyes trace over his masculine handwriting one more time. I set the note down and remove the plastic wrap from the muffin. Plucking off a small piece, I place it in my mouth and chew. Mmm, it’s so fresh. Was he up early baking it? I don’t see any dishes in the sink, though.

I find a Coyotes mug in the cabinet and make myself a coffee before I carry my breakfast, along with my phone, out to the back porch. Setting everything down on the glass topped table, I stare out at the beautiful view and sip my coffee.

My phone rings and I see Serena’s FaceTiming me.

“Hey,” I answer, smiling.

“Look at you with your freshly-fucked glow.”

My lips sputter with laughter.

“At least you’re not going to deny that you got laid.” She presses a palm to her chest. “As if I can’t tell anyway.”

I pop another piece of muffin in my mouth and chew.

“What are you eating?” she asks.

“Kaiden left me a blueberry muffin.”

Serena snorts. “A muffin for a muffin.”

“Shut up! That’s a horrible word to use for that.”

“Did Kaiden go muff diving?” she asks, laughing.

“Ew, that’s even worse. Don’t make me barf.”

“So that would be a no to the muff diving?” she continues, and I choke on a piece of blueberry. I take a sip of coffee and wash it down.

“There was no oral last night, but there was yesterday.”

“Oh, you mean when you screamed his name so loud the windows rattled?”

I cover my mouth as I laugh mid-chew. “I wasn’t that loud.”

“Sure you weren’t,” she says.

I wave my hand in front of my face. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore or I’ll get embarrassed.”

“Well, in case you’re wondering, Malcolm heard you.”

“I wasn’t wondering, but I don’t hate that he did. It’s the only time he’s heard me come.” I snicker.

Serena guffaws and falls backward, briefly disappearing from the screen. When she pops back into view, she wipes tears from her eyes. “Oh, Jesus, that was funny.”

“It is now,” I agree. “Not so funny when we were together, though.”

“Yeah, I bet. Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask how the job search is going,” Serena says.
