“Okay, I’ll introduce you to everyone and then you’re on your own,” I tease.

She pretends she’s going to sock me in the stomach but pulls the punch at the last second. “I’m not socially inept, but I’m also not used to being around famous people. Will I be the only ordinary person here?”

I stop walking, halting her forward progress too. “We had this discussion on our first date. Do you remember me making you say that you’re extraordinary?”

“Yes.”

“Do we need to do that again?” I ask.

She wrinkles up her nose. “No. I don’t want to.”

“Then don’t call yourself ordinary. You’re far from it.” I aim a pointed glance at her. “I mean it. You’re the woman who’s stolen my heart. Do you think I’d fall for someone who wasn’t special?”

Her mouth arcs up on one side. “Nope. You’re too cool.”

“Damn right I am.” I wink. “Now, let’s get inside, eat some delicious food, and have some fun.”

“Whose house is this anyway?” she asks.

“It’s Darius’s. You haven’t met him yet, but I guess you’re about to.” I smile.

She raises an eyebrow. “Ya think?”

I tug her into me and wrap my arms around her. “You like being fresh, don’t you?”

She looks up, affecting an innocent expression. “Maybe.”

“Well, you look stunning, so I’ll let it slide for now.” She’s wearing a light-green short-sleeved dress that gathers at the waist and falls to mid-thigh. Her legs look endless and I can’t wait to have them wrapped around me later tonight. Her white Chucks match the tiny flowers in the material and she has a small straw purse hooked over her shoulder. Her long hair flows in loose curls well past her shoulders, and a couple of gold bracelets adorn one of her wrists.

“Thank you.”

“I mean it. You’re sure to be the most beautiful woman here, and you’ll be on my arm.”

“There’s a slim chance you might be biased.”

“No way. Both Murphy and Ryder told me you’re hot.”

“Maybe your brains are frozen from too much time in the ice rink.”

“I have one word for you—extraordinary.”

“Yeah, yeah. I remember.” She sighs.

We resume walking toward the green bungalow.

“Oh, wow. My dress matches the house,” she says, laughing.

“Ha, don’t lean up against it or I might not be able to find you.”

“This place is beautiful. It’s not what I’d expect a hockey player to own.”

“Darius is young and only recently started making the big bucks. But I don’t think he’ll move from here. He’s pretty attached to this place.” I reach out to open the door. “Are you ready, baby?”

She gives a sharp nod. “Go for it.”

We walk into the party with our hands joined. Darius is the first to notice our arrival and he leads his girlfriend Evie over to us.

We shake hands and I introduce them to Rori.
