“Oh, yeah. There’s a whole bunch of women in the stands who wear shirts that say “I’m a Goode Girl.” He’s got his own fan club at every game. It’s not even just our fans who wear the shirts.”

Serena smiles and rubs her hands together. “Now this I’ve got to see.”

“Hey, Rori.” Evie waves at me as she steps into the row Serena and I are seated in. She sits down next to me. “This is my sister-in-law, Wendy.”

“Hi.” Wendy smiles.

“Hey, it’s nice to meet you. This is my friend, Serena.” I hook my thumb in her direction and they greet each other.

“Is this your first game?” Evie asks.

“It is.”

“What do you think so far?”

“It’s overwhelming.” The seats in the arena are full and the continuous chatter and cheering is wreaking havoc on my ears. But the fans’ excitement is palpable and I’m looking forward to the game starting.

“I like your jersey,” Evie tells me.

I glance down and smile. Kaiden was insistent I wear his number when my hockey game cherry is popped, and the fact that the first game of the season coincides with that momentous occasion is convenient. If the Coyotes play well, I’ll be happy. I don’t want them to begin their season with a loss. Plus, if they lose while I’m at my very first game, I’ll be afraid to attend another one. I can’t be their bad luck charm.

The guys are skating around the ice in front of us and Kaiden notices me almost immediately. He skates over, stopping in front of the boards. Tugging off one glove, he holds up his hand and tucks his middle and ring finger into his palm.

“What does that mean?” Serena asks.

“It’s sign language for I love you,” I explain.

“That’s so sweet. Bleh.”

I jab my elbow into her side. “Wait till you fall in love someday. I’m going to remind you how you made fun of Kaiden and me.”

“Like that’ll happen. There isn’t a man on earth who can handle me.”

“You might be right,” I agree.

Murphy glides by us and does a double take, but he’s not looking at Serena or me. I glance at Evie. “What was that all about?”

“He and Wendy met once. It was a brief encounter.”

“By brief encounter do you mean he didn’t last?” Serena asks.

Wendy snorts. “No, she means we met in a hallway and seconds later we parted ways.”

“I guess you made a good impression,” I say.

“Yeah, it looks like someone’s got a crush. Or maybe a couple someone’s do, huh, Wendy?” Serena teases.

“I’m not going to deny it. He’s hot and, given the chance, I’d let him bang me like a drum,” Wendy states.

We all laugh. I may have just met her but I like her already.

Serena leans forward, looking past me at Wendy. “I like you,” she says, echoing my thoughts.

Wendy flips her hair, then smiles. “Thanks. You’re rather cool yourself.”

I smile at Evie, who’s on my right side. “We should do this more often.”
