I tug her to me and then move over in the narrow hospital bed that we put in the makeshift clinic we have on the estate. I settle her beside me and she leans into my chest, her head turned into my neck as she takes slow, deep breaths.

“I don’t want anything to happen to you,” she whispers.

“I won’t let anything happen to me. I will always come home to you. That’s my only goal. Well, that and to take care of you. As long as I have you, my world is complete. Add into that the family we’re going to have one day and I will be a damn happy man.”

“Just be careful. I guess that’s all I can ask.”

“I have a dangerous career, dove. But I also have the absolute best reason to take care of myself. You. My family when we have one.”

“I guess I can live with that.” She says, curling up against me.

I hold her tightly, kissing her forehead gently and feeling her start to slip into sleep. Her body slowly relaxes and her breathing evens out and I hold onto her for hours while she sleeps.

One of my men pops into the room and I shake my head violently at him. He slides back out of the room. Tally never stirs.

My phone pings with a text coming in and I grab it, peering at the screen.

We’re safe. Will contact you when we can.

Is Petal okay? Has she figured out who the man was?

There’s no response and I sigh, putting the phone down. I trust Victor and if he’s lying this low, there’s a reason. I just hope that he can contact me if he needs help.

I kiss Tally and hold her even tighter, smiling when she squeaks then settles. My mouth tightens when I think of what could have happened today.

That can never happen again. This woman is my life, my love and my heart.

Smiling down at her gorgeous face relaxed in sleep, I let my eyes close, content for what feels the first time in my life.

I’ll make it through whatever else happens. And I’ll marry my little queen as soon as possible and bring her best friend and my second home safe.

And then I’ll raise the family that I know we’ll have. Full of love, hope and laughter.

Epilogue One: Xavier

Ipick up my phone and growl into it. “What?”

“For a guy that found his one, you sure sound pissy.” Victor’s voice makes me sit up.

“Considering that you ran off with the main witness and left me with a woman who’s very suspicious about what happened to her friend, you should be a little more forthcoming.”

“You can’t get your woman to play along? What the hell, dude? Who’s in charge over there?”

“Don’t fuck with me, man. If you met the woman that mattered more to you than anything in this world, you wouldn’t want to tell her that you don’t know where her friend is either. I don’t like to make her unhappy and lie to her.”

Victor is quiet for a minute. Then he sighs. “I get it. But you’re not actually lying to her. You don’t know where we are.”

“Semantics. I know who she’s with.”

“It’s better this way. If we’re out of the picture then I can see someone coming for her and keep her safe.”

“Do you know who you’re looking for?”

“We’re still going through pictures but I’m starting to think that the Vitrillo’s might have actually hired a heavy hitter. If they did, it might take me a little longer to find out who and then neutralize the threat.”

“Okay.” I sigh and shove my hands in my hair, looking out the darkened window. The soreness in my shoulder is getting better now but it’s not one hundred percent.

“I’ll see you as soon as I can,” Victor says and then he hangs up on me. I wish I could tell Tally but it’s better this way.
