“What’s wrong with it?”

“The amusement park won’t open. It looks like their power generator is dead and they just don’t have another one...” I open my eyes and reveal it, finally. The hand that was on my waist rises up my body, joining the other on my face and the two spread out on my cheeks.

“You made a contract, right?”

“Of course I made a contract, Marcos!”I narrow my eyes and he smiles, enjoying my silent challenge.

“Easy case!” Kisses my lips softly. “Don’t worry. I’ll solve it, alright?”

“How, Marcos? It’s three days to party!” I bow my head again, whimpering. “The problem is not the space, this I know I can find, but an amusement park that accepts reservation for forty children and all the logistics of a children’s party?A place that’s as good for the kids at Isabella’s old daycare as it is for the ballet? That’s impossible, Marcos! Impossible!”

The calm smile still sticks to his face when he asks me.

“Do you trust me?” I don’t know if it’s a request or a question, but the almost instinctive answer that comes out of my lips scares me with violence.

“I do!” And I don’t have any reason not to, do I? No!Since all this started, Marcos has done nothing but everything, whatever I needed. It shouldn’t be that easy.Still, it was, and I trust him. Without fear, I trust.Ironically, the unreliable person in this relationship has always been me.And I still keep being…

“Where’s Isabella?” Pulls me out of my own accusing thoughts.

“She went out with Grazi.” Marcos rolls his eyes just hearing the name, and I feel like laughing, but I don’t. “They went to buy her birthday present.” He shakes his head, confirming.

“All right, I’ll tell you what we’re gonna do...” I pay attention, eager. “Tomorrow you will share with my secretary all the list of guests, suppliers and the contract with the amusement park.”

“Okay, and what else?” I blink several times in expectation and contrary to all of them, Marcos’ first response is a smile so naughty that my entire body reacts.

“And now we’re going up and you’re going to reward me for my hard work.” I narrow my eyes.I want to stay serious, after all, we are three days away from the anniversary, and this is a very desperate situation, but the insinuation of desire in his voice was enough to awaken mine. His eyes practically let out sparks, and my whole body is already goosebumps, anxious.

I clear my throat, buying time to organize the thoughts he messed up.I can’t even pretend that’s not my natural reaction to Marcos. His closeness has always been enough to give my body ideas. His touch, to set me on fire. What about mixing all this with explicit intentions in words? Fuck. I don’t have any chance... Simple as that.

“What work? You haven’t done anything yet! Where I come from, first people do the job, then they get paid!” I argue, and Marcos’ fingers infiltrate my hair.He clicks his tongue and denies with his head.

“Oh…beautiful… My schedule is very busy... To get into it, you have to pay first.”

“Are you charging Isabella? Is that it?A three-year-old?” My mouth says words of resistance, but all my body wants is to say,Yes, please! I’ll pay it! I’ll pay it double if you want!

“No...” His lips reach my ear, the warmth of his breath is just another provocation on my sensitive skin. “Our little girl will have the party she wants, exactly the way she wants...I’m charging you my crisis manager fees...Isabella has nothing to do with that.”

What started as a tease stuns me.When Marcos finishes speaking, my breath is still stuck.I heard his words, I understood each one of them, but I wonder if I really did.Did he say our little girl? Our? Why ours? And why the hell did that squeeze my heart, whip it and make him run wild, all at the same time? It’s just a word, Antonella, it’s just semantics, it doesn’t mean anything...Absolutely nothing.

“What did you say?” I ask before I can stop myself.

“That my fees are for your peace, nothing more than that…” sounds calm as if he hadn’t said anything else worthy of attention.I wonder if I’m going crazy and starting to hear things that haven’t been said or if he even noticed what he said.

I let the air out when its absence forces me and any rational thought I wanted to continue to have is stolen by Marcos’ tongue sticking into my mouth.

“Now you sell peace, huh?” The question leaves me when the kiss is over, my previous worries choked by Marcos’ taste still on my tongue.God, he assaults my judgment! His mouth descends to my neck. He’s kissing, licking, and I’m moaning.

“Just to you...”

“All right, emissary. I’ll pay it…” I whisper in his ear just before licking it. “But if you don’t solve the problem, I’ll want restitution with interest and every kind of correction in existence.” His hand squeezes my ass tightly in response, making it clear what kind of correction he’s willing to give me and I groan, but I don’t give up. “Besides, you’ll have to put up with me being mad with anger and a very tearful and disappointed Isabella too!” He smiles.

“We don’t want any of this, right?” The hoarse voice and the expression on his face tell me the time for conversation is over.

“We don’t...” I confirm. “And since I’m an excellent payer, why don’t you go upstairs while I choose a wine?” The kiss he leaves on my lips makes a million promises.

“An excellent payer, huh? I like the sound of that…”
