“We miss her, Daddy.”

“Me too, baby, me too.”

I meant it. Nothing had been the same ever since she left.

“Girls, let’s make a deal. I’ll have Aunty Claire come bake you some treats, and we’ll find a way to bring Mommy back home, okay? But for now, you have to be good girls and eat your breakfast. Mommy won’t come back if you’re not on your best behavior. Okay?”

“Alright, Daddy.”

I retired to the safety of my room and put a call across to Claire.

“If it isn’t my favorite big brother. What do you need this time?” she said when she picked up.

“Ah ah. What’s to say I need something?”

“Well, don’t you?” I could imagine the smirk that was sure to be etched on her face.

“I do.”

“Knew it. Out with it.”

“Zoey left,” I blurted. “So, I need you to come around as the girls are throwing a fit, and I’m not really in the—”

“Hold up. What do you mean she left?”

I released a long and deep sigh and flunked unto the office chair. “Jason is my son, Claire. I met Zoey some years ago. Before Dana. We had sex, and Jason is my baby.”

“Woah. That is a lot.”

“You don’t say. Anyway, I didn’t know until the wedding, and when she eventually told me, needless to say, I didn’t handle it well. Now, I fucked up again, and she’s gone with my son. And Rose and Rory are throwing fits.”

I heard ruffling in the background. “I’m coming over, bro. I’ll be there in twenty.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t mention, bro.”

“And Claire? Please, you can’t tell Mom and Dad.”

“Got it, bro. I got you.”

An hour later, I walked into an elevator in Vitality. I was just returning from my ward rounds. The remaining doctors dispersed, and I was left alone momentarily.

“Hold, please,” a feminine voice called out. I knew it was her when I saw the blood-red nails. What doctor keeps long, painted nails?

“Hey Doc,” she drawled, smiling like a Cheshire cat.

“Hello Sasha.”

The elevator door dinged shut. She turned to me, giving me a clear view of milky breasts that threatened to spill out of her tight dress. “You look so tired.”

“Huh, yeah. It’s due to the influx of patients.”

“Oh, sorry. You are so hardworking.” She placed a hand on my chest, drawing lazy circles on them. “I know a couple of ways to de-stress if you’ll just let me help you.”

Sasha is a very beautiful woman, but at that moment, my thoughts were plagued by another. A certain redhead goddess. Swatting Sasha’s claws away, I said, “I can’t do this, Sash. I am married to a beautiful, caring woman, and I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize that.”

Her eyes glossed over, but she masked it with a smile. “You love her.”
