“Darius, I must say, it’s been a while since we saw you here.” Marcus smiled.

“Yes. I decided to lay low for a bit, but I’m back now.” He laughed, taking the vacant seat next to me.

What the heck?

“So, how’s work going for you, Harvey?” Darius asked me.

Darius and I had ventured into the tech world together. While I made it big with Blue Trekk on the first trial, Darius had a lot more difficulty with his own startup, but thanks to the generational wealth that his family had, he was able to scale through and now he does what he can to win bids legally or illegally.

He wasn’t the kind of man I wanted to be seen with.

My phone rang in my pocket and I silently thanked whoever it was that called me.

It was Lily. That was odd.

“Excuse me for a second,” I told Marcus, deliberately ignoring Darius.

“Sure, man,” Marcus responded, flicking through his phone, not saying a word to Darius as I left the table.

“Hey Lily, what’s up?”

“Daddy! Daddy! It’s Kat! She lost consciousness,” Lily exclaimed. That one statement sent my entire body into overdrive, but I had to maintain my cool.

“Where are you both?” I asked.

“I’m driving us home now.”

“Great. Now stay calm and make sure you drive straight home. I’ll call Doctor Pete to meet us.”

“Okay, daddy.”

“Everything will be fine, baby. See you soon.” I ended the call and immediately rushed back to the table.

“Whoa, what’s going on, man?” Marcus asked me.

“I don’t have enough time to speak, but it’s Kat. She’s in danger. I’ll call you later,” I said to Marcus.

“Bye, Harvey pleasure meeting you here.” He gave me a coy smile.

“Oh yeah, bye. I’ll call you,” I said to Marcus as I left the bar.

The entire drive home,I had my heart in my throat. On getting to the house, I could see Lily’s car right next to Dr Pete’s. I breathed a sigh of relief as I walked out of the car and headed straight into the house.

“Lily!” I yelled.

“Upstairs dad in my room!” she yelled. I took the stairs two steps at a time. I opened the door and found Lily on the bed right next to Katrina who was fast asleep.

She was breathing.

I placed a hand on my hip bone as I tried to steady my heart. I have never ever in my life been this afraid.

I saw my entire life flash through my eyes when Lily called me.

“Hello, Mr. Harvey.” Dr. Pete smiled at me. He was already placing his stethoscope back into his leather bag.

“What happened to her?” I asked him.
