"You’ll be fine. Tomorrow will be much better. Don't overthink it, okay?"

"Mmm-hmm."

"Alright, be good, babe."

"Yeah, you too." I dropped the call.

I survived my first day. I just have to keep doing that, hopefully without getting more strikes.

As I laid down on my sofa with my hand over my eyes, images of George flashed back to me.

George was never a name I would hear and think of men like Lily's dad, but he made it work.

I kept my fingers crossed that I wouldn’t lose my new job. I can't afford to.

CHAPTER3

GEORGE

It was quite difficult adjusting to my new assistant. I have a routine and I rarely stray from it. Penny knows that routine. Penny knows me. But the lady in front of me, not so much.

When Lily came to me to hire her friend, I wanted to object to the idea, but I was in need of something and the poor thing rarely asks me for favors.

I have had experiences with some of her friends, and they weren't the smartest of the bunch. Some of them have been shameless and wanton. A few I have found in my bed, and some left hints here and there that I intentionally did not pick up on.

Lily was a kind-hearted girl and that opened her up to people taking advantage of her. But this one, I have only ever heard about. I don't know what to think of her, but I was also not impressed by her.

I don't have the highest expectations of my daughter's friends. I was just wondering how long it was going to take for this one to come work for me, and how long before I fired her.

As she ran me through the recent changes in my schedules, I watched her with keen eyes.

She was beautiful, no doubt, with the kind of body that belonged to a vixen. Auburn colored wavy long hair fell over her shoulders, her blue eyes running left and right, reading what was on the tablet.

She was wearing a nude skirt that fell somewhere between mid thigh and knee length.

She had perfectly kissable lips that were plump and pink and shiny with gloss.

I shook my head, scolding myself. I should stop thinking thoughts like that. Things like that should not cross my mind, given that she is my daughter's friend. She was young, too young.

But she looked straight out of a man's fantasies.

I got irritated out of nowhere. I was already in a mood. I had a tough night, barely sleeping for three hours. My shoulders were starting to hurt again. I could kill for a glass of booze but my doctor placed me on medications and advised otherwise, and now, my body was reacting in ways I cannot explain to the woman in front of me.

"Would you like me to add or remove anything?"

I shook my head, even though I barely heard half of what she said. She had been talking for so long that I didn't want to bother her to repeat it.

"Can I get a cup of coffee? And can you manage to bring it to me without decorating me with it this time?"

It was the first time that I will have her bring me coffee since her first day. With Penny gone, I have no other choice.

Defiance flashed in her eyes and for a moment it intrigued me. She didn't look to me like someone that would have kept her mouth shut to such a remark if I wasn't her boss.

"Yes, Mr. Harvey," she replied, bowing her head slightly before leaving the room.

How does my name sound so enticing on her lips? I would love to hear her call me by my first name.

"This is a bad idea," I said to myself. The idea of her was a bad idea in general. And I had given more thought to her over the course of the last week than I had given about the women I have dated in the past year combined.
