"You need to find a proper woman you can commit to, George. Someone that can take care of all of this." He gestured to all of me.

"Some women find this a little too hard to handle, and you know where I stand on commitment."

"I understand that Bianca was a bitch, but not every woman is. I mean, look at Deborah. She's the best thing that ever happened to me."

"Yes, until you screwed that up."

"I guess I screwed things up with Deborah, but that's besides the point. I'm just trying to say that there are good women out there."

"Really? I'm yet to find one."

"That is because you're not looking. You need to be more open."

"Spare me the lecture."

"I know what I'm saying. My life was a whole lot easier when Deborah was a part of it, and even though we are separated, you know I still want her back."

"For her to come back, first you need to be a better man."

"Look, marriage doesn't come with a manual. I wish I could change things, but I can't. I wish that the younger me knew that work wasn't everything." He emptied his glass in one go. "And we are not talking about me. I was talking about you. You need to get yourself a woman."

"I have a woman."

"Oh, you mean that body you just sleep with?"

"Don't be disrespectful," I scolded.

"I am not. I'm just saying those women are empty-headed and they want nothing but your money or your dick and sometimes both."

"I'm fine with that. I just want their body too."

"You're not going to see eye-to-eye with me on this are you?"

"Unfortunately," I replied.

"If you decide to keep being whatever you are, that's fine. I can only say my peace and hope you adhere. Now, to me, I need help. Deborah's birthday is coming up soon, and I need to find a way to do something for her. Preferably something that will make her love me again."

"I don't think she ever stopped loving you. I just think you need to play your cards right.”

"Maybe," he smiled.

I sighed.

The little redheaded girl that I worked with flashed behind my eyes again. That had been happening more frequently than I would like to admit and I wasn't exactly comfortable with that. I took another sip of my Scotch and tried to get my mind to think of anything other than her, but it was like the more I tried to not think about her, the more that I did.

CHAPTER4

KAT

Imanaged to find a routine, a sweet spot that put me in good standing with George. Was he still a hard man? Yes, he was. Does he still glare at me? Yes, he does, or maybe that was his resting face. I couldn't tell the difference, but I have learned to live with it.

It's been a little over a month of working with him and there were some things that I have learned. Some of them I learned the hard way.

But my job wasn't the only thing that I had difficulty with. I also had the hard task of not thinking about George. Everything about the man spoke volume. His short hair and always neatly trimmed beard. He had a build that showed a woman that he was very capable.

I tried to be as proactive as I could, learning the way that he worked and trying to make everything available to him before he asked.

I stood in his office with Melissa, getting ready for a meeting with some of the heads of the department of the company, and dare I say that Melissa was head over heels for George and the man was oblivious to the whole thing.
