The way she looked at him when he wasn't looking or how she touched him lightly here and there. It made me realize that I was not the only one affected by George. And seeing how he acted towards her also made me know that there was zero hope for me.

Why would I even think I had a chance in the first place? Why would I even want a chance? I was not looking to date anyone, and even if I was, my best friend’s father, a man over a decade older than me, was not the way to go. But it was difficult to ignore him. He wasn't the kind of man you looked away from.

"Mr. Harvey, um, your tie-" His tie was a little crooked. I knew he was not going to like that. "Do you mind if I adjust it a little?" I asked.

He nodded and I walked up to him. The last time I got that close to him was when I ran into him coming out of the elevator on the first day. I was not ready for the way the proximity made me feel.

His rich scent engulfed me as I tried my best not to touch him unnecessarily. I stepped back when I was done, or at least I tried to, but my knees chose that time to fail me and I stumbled a little. His hand shot out to my waist to hold me steady, and I might be crazy, but that touch felt like everything.

It felt like his hand belonged there. It was torturous, as I wanted him to pull me closer with it.

Our eyes met and he held my gaze for a second, no expression in his eyes, and I had to hold my breath to still my racing heart.

"You are going to be late, George. Let's go," Melissa called out behind him. He was so large that I didn't even see the tall woman that stood by his desk, just the large span of his chest.

My gaze lowered, unable to look at him anymore. I stepped away from him. "Thank you, sir," I replied, hurrying out of the room to get my things for the meeting.

The board room was on the next floor, and as the meeting started, I paid close attention, even though it was very difficult. My eyes were on his arms for most of the meeting, even as I handed him materials that he needed before he asked for them.

As the rest of the team stood up and left the room after the meeting, I packed up George's files.

"You are adjusting to the job quite well," he said out of nowhere, still on his chair, looking at me.

That was the first compliment he had ever paid me concerning the job. I didn't think that he had it in him. I was too stunned to speak.

"When I see a good job, I acknowledge it, Miss Williams. No need to look like a deer caught in headlights."

I cleared my throat, and resumed packing up.

"Please go with Melissa and get the details from our current partners from her. I want to evaluate progress with them all.”

"Ok, sir."

I walked behind Melissa into her office.

"I know the likes of you," she started.

"Excuse me?"

"That act? You might fool George, but you can't fool me."

"I don't understand you, Melissa."

"The inappropriate dressing you do." She gestured to my skirt. "Trying to get your hands all over him. He will see through you soon enough and you will be fired. He doesn't like to mix business with pleasure." She leaned back in her chair.

I wanted to respond with 'you had to learn that the hard way, huh?' but I restrained myself.

"You don't like me very much, do you?"

"No, I don't. I don't like people who try to take advantage of George."

"Mr. Harvey doesn't look to me like a man people can take advantage of."

She laughed sarcastically. "You are so brazen."

"I have a limited time here, Melissa. You only have to deal with me for so long."

"That is true." That seemed to give her some sort of relief. She opened her laptop and worked on it for a little while before giving me a flash drive and a file.
