CADEN

EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER

“Didyou pack Blair’s diaper bag?”

I smirk as I shake my head. “How many times do I need to remind you, Bam?”

Pushing myself off the jamb of our bedroom door, I advance on my wife and press a kiss to her forehead. “We call them nappies here.”

She steps out of my embrace, shaking her head as a soft laugh spills from her mouth. “Old habits die hard.”

As she drops Blair’s Huddles Puppy alongside Bug’s Huddles Bunny into the open overnight case resting on our bed, I wrap my arms around her waist, settling my palms on her gently rounded stomach.

“Well, you’ll be usingnappiesfor the foreseeable, so I can see that habit taking a hike.”

She relaxes against me, placing her own hands atop mine when she angles her head to the side, capturing my adoring gaze.

“Have you spoken to Beau yet?”

I nod, a shit-eating grin taking centre stage. “Yeah, I did. I called him after I put Blair down for her nap this morning.”

She looks at me askance. “And…?”

“And…he loves the material for the new album. Said it’s genius!”

Summer’s smile is dazzling as she spins in my arms to throw her hands around my neck.

“Oh, Cade. I’m ecstatic for you!”

I fold her in against my chest, resting my head by her temple and inhaling her intoxicating scent.

Having disbanded Misdirection in the days following Jake’s funeral, Beau had decided to take a stab at a solo career while the rest of us embraced normalcy.

Except, I’d never trulyhada normal life to begin with. And after some time, I struggled to fill my days with something I was passionate about besides Summer and the kids.

It was during a visit from Beau several months earlier that he’d mentioned his distaste for the songwriters his new label had been sending his way. And inspiration struck.

I’d offered to pen one song for his next album, but that had turned into half a dozen, which had just continued to multiply.

My love for music was never in question. My distaste for the lifestyle that went along with it was the problem.

Writing the music was where my passion lay, and I could do that from the comfort of my wife’s embrace.

“And he’s donating my fee to Katherine’s House in lieu of the charity gigs we used to perform.”

“Oh, Cade. That is so thoughtful.” My wife pulls back just enough to spear me with glistening doe eyes. “You are the most wonderful man I have ever known, and that I get to call youmineblows my damn mind.”

“I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Bam.” I furrow my brow, putting every piece of myself into my next words. “You’re the air I need to breathe…and I could never be without you.”

“You neverwillbe without me, Cade. Notever.”

I lean forward, taking her mouth with mine in a languorous kiss. She arches her body against me shamelessly, and I deepen the kiss, making her whimper against me.

Breaking the kiss when a chuckle rumbles deep inside my chest, I press our brows together. “Christ, I’ll keep you pregnant all the time if you stay this fucking horny, woman!”

Her face splits in a self-deprecating grin as she rolls her eyes good-naturedly. “You are the pits.”

“So you keep telling me, Bam. But you love me anyway.”
