Her eyes smile up into mine, sending butterflies swarming through my stomach even after all this time, and I send a silent thank you up to the universe for gifting me this life of rainbows after so many years in the rain.

“We’re going to belate!”

Our heads swivel simultaneously to find an irate, foot-tapping, almost seven-year-old in the doorway of our bedroom.

“Jesse just changed Blair’s diaper, and—”

“It’snappy, Bug.” Summer slips out of my arms, returning to her packing while I face our clearly annoyed daughter.

“Does it evenmatter?”

The inflections in her sentences these days grate on my last motherfucking nerve, and I glance back at Summer to find her hiding a grin behind a handful of t-shirts.

“Anyway, as I wassaying—”

Summer snorts but manages to cover it when she pretends to clear her throat.

Fucking girls will be the death of me!

“We’ve putourbags in the car, so now we’re just waiting onyou! Enough kissing, more packing.”

And with a loud harrumph, she spins on her little heel, tosses her blonde curls over her shoulder, and marches back down the hall.

Summer turns back to her packing with a smirk. “You heard her. Best move your ass, Cade. We can’t be late to little Nathan’s christening, or she’ll lose her shit altogether.”

I move to follow Bella, shaking my head slowly as Summer calls after me. “Best hope this one is a boy, husband.”

Snorting a laugh, I pivot on my heel and close the gap between us. I palm my wife’s soft cheeks, resting my head on hers. “Why would you say that, Bambi? Jesse and I are blessed if our lot in life is to be surrounded by beautiful women.”

Her lips twitch. “You’re good, I’ll give you that."

I shrug. “What can I say? There’s smooth…and then there’sme.”

Leaning up on her tiptoes, she brushes her lips across mine as she smiles. “And I’ll be yours. Forever.”

NATE

“Thanks for coming, guys.”

I wave at Nola and Josie as they bicker loudly in the elevator before the doors close, leaving me to wipe the sweat from my brow.

Christ, those two are hard fucking work sometimes.

“Penny for them?”

A smile breaks out across my usually dour face at the sound of my wife’s voice at my back.

“They’re not even worth that, Hellcat.”

I spin on my heel, finding her smiling broadly. “You’re so transparent, Nathaniel. You’re thinking that my friends are hard work and don’t even bother trying to lie. I know youtoowell by now.”

This woman.

Closing the distance between us in one smooth stride, I palm her face and hold her golden gaze intensely. “The day I gave in to our love was the day my life began. To have been fortunate enough to find the other half of my soul is something I willnevertake for granted.”

I lean closer, brushing our noses together before kissing her forehead.
