“I don’t think I’ve ever been as grateful that time-turners don’t exist, because Reyna DeMarco…”

He trails off to press a chaste kiss to my swollen lips. “I don’t want to miss one damn second of our time together. Not a single one.”

CHAPTER36

REYNA

I wake to an empty bed,the bright sunshine beaming through a slit in the bedroom blinds as I stretch my limbs, embracing the delicious ache in every single part of my thoroughly loved, absolutely satiated body.

As I stare at the ceiling, I can’t help a smile from overtaking my face when I remember my husband’s words from the night before.

“I love you, Sunshine.”

My heart flip-flops beneath my breastbone at the memory, and my stomach fills with butterflies when I suddenly realize that I need to see him.

I need to know that it wasn’t a dream.

And so, I throw back the covers, leaping from the bed to stride through the bedroom door, grabbing Alex’s shirt from yesterday from the jumbled mess of discarded clothes on the floor before I walk into the hallway.

I take the stairs at top speed, the smell of flowers hitting my nose and making me stop to look around.

The entire open-plan area is filled to capacity with vase after vase of stunning ballerina bouquets – ornate rose lilies and soft butterfly ranunculus in varying hues of pink – covering every surface.

My eyes well with tears at the sight as I make my way past them toward the kitchen, only to find it empty.

I glance around, suddenly bereft, only for my eyes to light on a single white envelope, and my greedy hands reach for it immediately, knowing that it’s from Alex.

Needingto know where he is.

His familiar neat writing is front and center, and I make short work of ripping it open to pull the contained papers out, along with a single white seashell identical to the ones from Playa Conchal.

My throat tightens as my nostrils flare, and I hold the shell tight inside my fist while I open the documents inside.

Firstly, I read the handwritten letter.

To my beautiful, blissfully sleeping wife,

I have just spent the last three hours watching you as you slept. Devouring every single curve, every contour. Soaking up every little morsel of unfiltered Sunshine that I can physically handle.

And the sight has sent my thoughts into overdrive.

First, every single bouquet here is for all those shows you missed. For all those nights when you would have shone brighter than the sun as you danced to your heart's content.

It’s not even half of what you deserve, but it’s all the florist could do at 5 a.m. I’ll do better in future, I promise.

Second, my beautiful wife, I know I am utterly undeserving of you, but I want to try to be better as we move forward.

Our beginning needs a second chance, and it’s with that in mind that I ask you to please go back to the start with me.

You’ll find me where we began.

Love always and forever,

Your husband

I read and re-read the letter three more times before I move on to the printed document, and my eyes blow wide at the content.

It’s the deed for the studio I wanted. The one on Staten Island, despite the fact I’d not even mentioned it to him.
