Then Monty stepped forward, devilment in his eyes and his grin wide.

“What the hell have you done?” Belle said, her voice a mix of amusement and love. “It hasn’t even been two weeks. Hardly a reason to throw a party.”

“On that, we agree, my dear witch.”

“Then why go to such—”

She stopped abruptly, shock reverberating through her. Monty reached into his pocket, pulled out a small red velvet box, and dropped to one knee in front of her.

“Isabelle Nelinda Kent, I fell in love with you at school and have spent most of my life searching for an emotional connection that got anywhere near the depth of my feelings for you back then. Fate bought me to this reservation and the realization that you are the other half of my soul. If this near fortnight has proven anything, it’s that I can’t risk losing you again.”

“Monty, I...” Belle’s voice faded, but her joy was so fierce it was sun-bright.

I wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes.

“Isabelle Nelinda Kent,” he repeated softly, “will you marry me?”

“Of course I’ll fucking marry you,” she said. “Now get off your knees and kiss me, you damn fool.”

He laughed and obeyed.

The celebrations ran long into the night.
