Boom.

The door flies away from the building in pieces as my ears begin ringing loudly, breaking my focus. I can see Cain’s mouth moving but I can’t make out the words he’s saying. It’s all white noise.

The Sons begin to rush inside, clearing the rooms in the back of the building. My eyes watch as two at a time they start disappearing into rooms on either side of the hall. I spot another room in front of us to the right.

Not being able to hear anything has me feeling defenseless against the enemy. I can only see what’s in front of me. I glance over my shoulder to see who’s watching my six; only no one is there.

I’m alone.

My chest tightens, panic settling deep within me.

I quickly run for the room ahead of me as I spot Cain and Zeke leaving the room to my left, signaling to push forward.

Three men turn the corner at the end of the hall running in our direction. I pop off a few shots taking the first one down, then move to take cover in the room.

I throw my shoulder into the locked door, but it doesn’t budge. More bullets fly from behind me as I see the other two men drop to the ground. Cain pushes me aside, fires a few shots into the door, and kicks it open. We pile into the room. Zeke’s the last man to enter, closing the door behind him.

The three of us stand frozen at the sight in front of us. Gabriel is tied to a chair with a pool of old dried-up blood and fresh blood mixed beneath him.

We race over to Gabe, Zeke pulling out his knife and cutting away his binds. Gabriel’s head hangs low to his chest. Cain starts tapping his cheeks, trying to get him to wake.

The ringing in my ears starts to clear, and I hear Zeke and Cain yelling at my dad. Zeke presses two fingers into the side of his neck, checking for a pulse. “He’s alive, just unconscious. We need to get him out of here,” Zeke yells as the gunshots from beyond the door sound like they’re getting closer to our position.

Gabe grunts out when Cain throws his arm around him. His arms and legs are covered in fresh wounds and blood making my stomach turn over. He’s been tortured this whole time.

King really did a number on him.

“Clear us a path to get him out of here,” Zeke shouts, pulling Gabe up from the chair. As soon as his feet touch the ground, he screams in pain.

“Fuck! He can’t walk. It looks like someone drilled holes in his legs,” Cain yells out in anger, clenching his fist in front of him like he wants to rip the person responsible to shreds.

“Just carry him, and I’ll cover you,” I respond, pulling my shoulders back, clearing my head, and prepare myself for war.

“We got Gabe, but no sign of King,” Zeke says over the coms.

Angel will cut off my balls if Gabe doesn’t make it out of here alive. And I’d prefer them to stay attached to my body.

I move to the door, cracking it open to check the hall. Suddenly, a man steps right in front of me, firing toward the exit. My instincts take over immediately, swinging the door wide, throwing my body into his, and wrapping him up. We grapple for control of the gun. I repeatedly throw an elbow to his jaw and the side of his head as he fights to break loose.

Another guy rushes me from behind, knocking the three of us to the ground.

I’m losing momentum in this fight.

I start throwing punches at the guy below me like a wild man. The other guy scrambles to his feet, going for the gun that skidded down the hall. I jump forward, grabbing ahold of his leg, and tripping him up. He falls to the ground with a grunt of pain.

I use every ounce of energy I have in me to leap forward towards the gun, throwing my body down on top of it.

Rolling over, gripping the gun tight, I fire off the last rounds into both men.

Sitting up exhausted and worn out, I let out a deep breath looking to the doorway. I see three sets of eyes staring me down, wide-eyed.

Zeke and Cain nod their approval. But my gaze falls to Gabriel.

The corners of Gabe’s lips turn up in a smile that makes his whole face light with joy. “I didn’t know you had it in you, son,” he says proudly.
