Ididn’tfeellikewaiting alone for the guys to return, so I called Cassie to come and distract me.

Usually, I would suffer in silence when the guys go out on a run, but this is different. I’m going outta my mind with worry.

If King has no qualms about shooting me, then I have no doubt he’d take a shot at one of my guys the second he gets the chance.

“You need to eat,” Cassie whines, standing over the plate of food she made for me over an hour ago. My eyes narrow on her, scrunching my forehead.

Yeah, like I could eat right now. I roll my eyes at her and turn back to face the door. I’ve been staring at it for hours, waiting for them to return.

“Are you going to come to my funeral,” she says, amused. “Because your mom will kill me when she finds out you haven’t been eating.”

“Fine,” I yell, throwing my hands up in the air. I get off the couch and walk over to the table.

Royal’s furniture was delivered last week, so he has all the basics. Table and chairs, couch and bedroom furniture, other than that, this place still feels empty, especially since the guys aren’t here.

The walls are bare and begging me to add some color in this house. Royal doesn’t even have a tv yet. I guess with me being in the hospital and their hunt for King, he’s had his hands pretty full.

I sit down and pick up the fork, mostly pushing the food around my plate to make it look like I’m eating. Looking up, I find Cassie deadpanning me with an evil glare. Her arms crossed over her chest and her hips popped out. “Damn, okay,” I mumble, shoving food into my mouth. My stomach growls loudly for more. I guess I was hungry after all.

“Thank you,” she says in her cocky, ‘I know you better than you think’ voice. I give her a smirk and go back to eating.

After I finish, she picks up my plate and walks over to the sink to rinse it off. “You think they’re okay, right?” She asks. “I mean, Sinner and Shadow are trained for this kinda thing.”

“So is Cruz,” I cut in. “Royal once told me that he’s ex-military, and I think a few other members are as well. I’m sure they will make it home safe. But that doesn’t stop me from worrying about them every time they walk out that door.”

She nods her head, places the plate in the dish rack then walks into the front room and sits on the couch. I follow her, pouncing beside her, laying my head on her shoulder.

“So what’s the deal with Sinner and Shadow, anyway?” I ask.

She shrugs. “Who knows. One minute they’re hot and the next ice fucking cold. Their mood swings give me whiplash. Then at the hospital, while you were in surgery, they got all territorial when Zeke tried comforting me. I don’t know what to think.”

“Sounds about as complicated as my situation,” I laugh.

Royal, Lucky and Jax have made it clear how they feel, but with Dante, things are still up in the air, and I hate it. As much as I tell myself I can walk away from Gabe, I’m starting to think that’s a fool's dream.

Seeing him in that hospital bed fighting for his life changed something inside of me. I tried to push my feelings aside for the guys’ sake, but I don’t know if I can continue lying to myself about how I truly feel.

“Nothing is as twisted as your life, but mine is slowly creeping in that direction,” she says with a chuckle.

We spend the next hour talking about boys. She tells me all about Zeke, and he treats her like a princess. I’m surprised because I’ve never heard Cassie talk about any guy like this. It’s nice. She seems excited to see what happens next between them.

The two of us are in mid-conversation when we hear a noise in the backyard. We both freeze for an instant, then jump off the couch, hiding behind the wall that leads to the kitchen. We peak our heads around the corner just as a shadow creeps by the window.

“I locked the house up when you got here,” I say, reeling in my emotions. I’m in no shape for a fight, but I will if I have to.

Cassie sighs, clutching onto my arm.

“Where does Royal keep his weapons?” she whispers beside me.

“There’s a gun in the bedroom in his nightstand and more in the garage.”

“Bedroom.” We say at the same time and run down the hallway.

I grab the handle, open the bedroom door then lock it behind us. Cassie rushes over to pull out the gun and hands it to me. “I’ve never fired one,” she admits.

I’ve been to the gun range plenty of times with the guys and she knows that. I dig around the drawer looking for an extra clip, but there isn’t one.

“We only have one clip, six bullets. That better be fucking enough,” I say, shoving the mag into the gun and cursing Royal in my head.
