My mind runs through each possibility.
“Do you know how far along I am?”
“No, I’m sorry. We would go off of your last period date unless you’d like to do an ultrasound to find out exactly, but even those aren’t precise.”
I toss my head back against the bed, burying my head in my hands.
I’m so fucked.
Chapter seven
Lucky
“Can you just sit the fuck down?” Shadow yells for the millionth time.
Normally, I’d be scared of what he might do if I didn’t listen, but I’m injured. He wouldn’t beat the hell out of a cripple, would he?
Fuck it.
“No can do, buddy. Cassie said something’s wrong with Angel, and I need to find out what’s going on.”
He growls, clenching his fists.
Hell, maybe he will hit me. But that’s a chance I’m going to have to take to get to my girl. She needs me. I can feel it in my bones.
“The doctor said rest. So rest.”
“Aww, I didn’t know you cared so much. I always knew you were a softie,” I tease.
He throws his head back in frustration as Cassie and Sinner walk into the room.
“Perfect timing, sis. Your guard dog was just about to castrate me for trying to leave.”
Cassie stalks over to Shadow, shoulders squared, looking him dead in the eyes.
He cocks a brow, waiting for her move.
Sinner chuckles, watching every second of their interaction as closely as I am.
She snakes her arms around his waist, burying her head in his chest.
My eyes pop out as I watch his back stiffen before he hugs her back.
“Thank you for taking care of him.”
“No problem, kid,” he says, releasing her and taking a step back.
I could have sworn I heard Sinner growl under his breath, but I must be hearing things.
“Right,” she mumbles, turning toward me. “Didn’t the doctor tell you to get some sleep? This isn’t you sleeping.”
I wave my hand between the two of them. “I don’t even have the mental capacity to figure out what’s going on with you two, but whatever it is, it ends now.”
“Last time I checked, you weren’t my father or my boss. So mind your business. You have plenty of shit to figure out with your own relationship. Stay out of mine.”
“Relationship? You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Sinner and Shadow both throw up their hands, taking a step away from Cassie.
