“Well, no. I was actually hoping you’d take me to see him,” she says, giving me those irresistible puppy dog eyes.Fuck, I’m going to cave.

“Please, Luck. I need you. I know it’s not safe to go alone especially now,” she says, placing a hand over her stomach.Shit, I’m caving.“That’s why I need you to take me. I’ll be safe with you. I’ll say what I have to say, and we can come home. No biggie.”

I roll my eyes and start grabbing the food to place it on the table.

“Yeah, no biggie. Says the girl with a death wish,” I grumble as the guys start to come around the corner.

“Good morning,” the guys say, sweeping down to kiss Angel one by one before finding their seats.

“You two cooked? Nice!” Dante says. “A man can get used to this.”

I frown, my eyes burning a hole through him. “I cooked, Angel watched. And don’t get used to it. I was just feeling considerate, but that’s over now.”

I watch as they eye one another with a frown. “What crawled up your ass this morning?” Jax mumbles, shoving food into his mouth.

Before I can answer, Angel interjects. “Lucky and I have some errands to run today, and he wanted to spend all day in bed, but I’m sore. So errands it is,” she lies. Well, half lies. She probably is sore, and going to see Gabriel isn’t an errand, it’s a fucking nightmare.

I glance at her with a frown, and she shrugs. Everyone starts eating, but I’ve lost my appetite. The last thing I wanted to do today was see Gabriel, but fuck, she really backed me into a corner.

“Be ready in twenty,” I say, making my way into the backyard. I need some fresh air before I deal with this shit. Our little fragile ecosystem might be on the verge of breaking after this.

Chapter twelve

Angel

I kiss the guys goodbye and head outside where Lucky stands impatiently by his bike, holding a helmet out for me. Pulling my phone out, I quickly shoot a text to Gabe telling him that I’m coming to see him.

I’m filled with anxiety as I shove my phone into my side pocket. I have no idea how he’s going to react to the news, and the guys are going to freak when they find out I told him before them. I risk breaking all the trust we’ve built over the past few weeks by doing this.

I know that. But I don’t see another way around it. My stomach sinks as I approach Lucky. He’s upset. Scratch that, he’s pissed.

The grimace on his face says it all. I’m disappointing him too, and I hate it. “Let’s get this over with,” I say, squaring my shoulders as I try to shake the nerves off.

“I hope you know what you’re doing, Angel,” he huffs as I take the helmet from him and put it on.

“Not even a little bit, Luck,” I say, climbing on behind him as he shakes his head.

Maybe one day I’ll get my shit together. I have too. For the guys and this baby.

I can’t keep being reckless with my love or my life. This baby has to come first from now on.

We take off heading for Gabe’s, and Lucky takes a much-needed detour by the coast. The moment I see the sun glistering over the water, I’m filled with a sense of peace.

My old friend, it’s been too long.

Lucky tightens my grip around him. He knew I needed this, probably just as much as he did. There’s something about looking out over the ocean that just makes everything seem so small in comparison.

All life’s problems just disappear into the background and a calming feeling takes over. That’s why it’s my happy place. No matter what’s happening in life, I can always stand in front of the ocean and know things will be okay.

The coast disappears, and we start navigating through Sons’ territory. The bike speeds up the farther we drive.

“It’s okay, Luck!” I shout, hoping he can hear me over the roar of the wind and motorcycle tangled together.

He starts to slow, taking a turn through the familiar neighborhood where Gabe once held me and Cassie hostage. The place where everything changed for us.

My skin tingles, and my heart starts pounding as we pull up to the house where Dante spent the first years of his life. The house where his mother died and his world changed forever.

I don’t know how Gabriel can stand being here. Just looking at it makes my stomach churn with disgust.
