No one comes in or out, only to give me a toilet break and food. Each time someone enters the cell, I shudder. I don’t hear from or see the European or the American guys again, so that’s a relief.
By now, Rayne will obviously know about the kidnapping, and will be going out of her mind.
A couple of days go by when I hearherheels clicking down the hall. But she doesn’t come in right away. I can hear her talking on the phone, so I tiptoe over to the door and eavesdrop.
“What do you want me to do?”
Oh god, it’s Rayne’s voice. My heart jolts in my chest as I hear her voice on speakerphone.
“Seduce him,”The woman says. “I’m sure that won’t be too hard.”
“I…I don’t know if….”
“Remember, Mia can be given back to you unharmed or in a body bag after being used by the brothels. I hear they’re dreadfully barbaric…the choice is yours.”
I make a noise in the back of my throat, but I slap my hand over my mouth to save myself from screaming or crying.
“You really are a disgusting piece of shit!” Rayne spits. “How is seducing him going to get me information?”
“He’ll begin to open up to you. He’ll start to trust you. Pillow talk is highly underrated.”
“But I…”
“Your sister won’t look so pretty if I cut her eyes out,”she sneers.
My eyes nearly bug out of my head as I start to rock on the mattress. She snaps the phone shut and proceeds inside my cell.
I don’t meet her eyes.
“Everything is on track,” she tells me. “Your sister is at least being somewhat cooperative. She should be thanking me. Seducing and sleeping with Angelo Medici should be the least of her problems. It’s not like it’s a hardship. That is until he finds out she’s betraying him. He is merciless.”
As I glance up, I’m shocked that she’s so pretty, it’s the first time I’ve gotten a clear look at her. Beautiful in the extreme. Long, black hair, olive skin, perfect lips, she’s dressed in a suit. To say I’m shocked is an understatement.
“You won’t get away with this,” I hiss with disgust. “She’s too smart for all of you. You’ve severely underestimated my sister, if you think she won’t find a way to get to me.”
She laughs. “Is that so?”
“You better believe it.”
“Tough words, little girl. If you don’t behave yourself, I’ll send one of my men here to shut you up permanently!”
I shut my mouth and hug my knees into my chest again.No, I don’t want that.
“Why are you doing this?” I ask again, though I know the answer. Angelo Medici. I can’t help the tears of despair that roll down my face. We’re good people, both of us. We've never done anything bad to anyone.
“Don’t take it personally. It’s just a case of bad luck, for you anyway.”
She turns on her heel again and marches back out, leaving me alone in the darkness.
Everything about her is cold. Her eyes are blue like the ocean but fierce. There’s a darkness that lurks there beneath the surface.
Do not trust her.
I don’t even feel like eating, but I know I have to keep my strength up.
I lay down as soon as it’s quiet again and wonder what Rayne is doing this very minute. I wonder what my friends will say when I don’t show up for work. Surely by Monday someone is going to be looking for me?
I shudder at the words she spoke about Rayne having to seduce this Angelo character. What kind of sick game is this?
