Gasping for air, she quickly freed her ankles with a snap. Her eyes meeting Hydes for a moment. A jolt of electricity passing through them. Taking her breath away with a gasp. Energy filling her, filling him.

Mine.

His voice was loud in her mind, as was his intent that she run.

Tilting her head at him, she smiled. She had no intention of ever running again. Letting her fingers curl around the hilt of the sacrificial blade. There was only one way to end this.

Filled with a furious energy. She stood. Her wedding bodice cut open, her skirt awash with blood. The world around her seeming to move in slow motion.

“Draven!” His name, on her lips, a furious challenge. A war-cry.

Before he had even fully turned to face her, she leapt

Giving into the hands holding him, Hyde sank into the vampires, raising both his feet. He kicked Draven, snapping the vampire around to face her.

Sinking the long knife deep into his chest. Talia let a cry. Crushing bone under her blow. She knew the moment it pierced his heart.

Could almost feel it in her own.

Wrapping his arms around her, Draven drew her close. His legs giving out, dragging her to kneel with him on the stone floor.

His vampires and human acolytes inundated with furious wolves and black clad witches. Unable to get to them. Hyde’s roar filling the room. His body exploding with renewed ferocity. As he ripped into the surrounding vampires.

Yet it all seemed to be silence in the moment.

Talia blinked, her heart pounding hard and fast. Fingers slick with his blood, she gripped the hilt of the knife tightly.

Every detail of his face was as familiar as her own.

Draven had loved her.

Eyes wide, she forced herself to breathe. His fingers trembling as they rose to trace the curve of her cheek.

“Only you,”

Only she could kill him. She could see it in his eyes. Eyes so dark it was impossible to tell what colour they might have once been. He was waiting for her to do it.

Without hesitation, Talia pulled the blade free. The gush of his warm blood spraying across her face. Yet she didn’t move.

She didn’t move as slow, dark cracks appeared over his skin. She didn’t move as he tried to scream. She sat kneeling with him as the finger touching her cheek begun to dust.

Her eyes never leaving his. She watched the horror, the pain, fill him as dark energy swirled under his skin. Escaping in dark rays as his body started to crumple to dust.

Dimly she was aware of Hyde screaming at her to run. But she didn’t move as Draven exploded into a spray of dust. The dark, swirling energy had been trapped for what felt like an eternity, but now it was finally free, roaring out of its captor with a deafening sound. For a moment, it rose high over him where his body had been. Almost seething as it rolled beneath the glass ceiling.

Before coiling for her.

Wrapping around her once, twice. Pulling her upright as it poured into her. Her head rocking backwards with a cry. Her arms extending wide. Lost in the wind of power.

Pure undulated power. Flooding every pore, every cell, every part of her mind. Screaming, her eyes snapping open, glowing in the room’s darkness. She could see them all. She could feel them all. Lost in a tidal wave of images. Memories. Timelines forgotten, faces lost. Names she once knew, covens.

Draven, love and pain.

Oh gods. There was so much agony. All of it pouring into her. Through her.

She felt every sob. Each act of betrayal. Every knife cut, every torture. Each time he cut out her heart, chipping cruelly away at her soul.

Screaming, she knew she couldn’t hold it. She wasn’t strong enough to hold this much power, this much life force.
