The Arcandians had made the ritual room. The sound of battle ringing in his ears. Just a little longer and she would be free. The very air cutting into him, drawing hundreds of thin slices across his skin. He leapt high, his claws going for Draven’s throat.

This would end now.

Landing where Draven had been only seconds before Hyde turned. His teeth bared as he swung.

Catching his hand, Draven smiled. His willpower crushing into him with a force that almost sent him to his knees.

“Even now you’re more animal than demon” revulsion dripping off every word. “Hiding behind your wolf like it’s some sort of talisman” His beast growling as Draven, flush with ritual magic, sent his power coiling through him. Seeking the living energy that was his wolf. Calling through his merged beast, the vampire king reached for the pet he had controlled for half a century.

Locked more by Draven’s stare than his fist. Hydes beasts panicked. The vampire king was cutting through the freshly made bonds. Ripping apart demon and wolf.

A half chocked cry tore itself from his throat in pain riddled howl.

His whole body convulsing, his legs barely managing to stand as Draven pressed his wolf deep. Pushing it so deep into Hyde that the black fur was rapidly receding back into his skin. His muscles contorting. His shoulders twisting. He dropped to his knees. His claws become flat hands against the floor as he tried to breathe past the red rage that was building. Letting go of the wolf. Hyde tried to fling its spirit as far away from himself as he could.

But still Draven pushed. His dark gaze consumed with sadistic satisfaction.

He was trying to lock his wolf away. To push it so deep into Hyde that he would never feel its call again.

Molten heat rising in him, he drank in the fear and the chaos in the room. His infernal powers rising to block the dark twisting energy of the vampire’s control. As his hands convulsed just once. His skin darkening with a red gleam. Demonic talons digging deep gouges into the stone as he pushed himself to stand. Rolling his shoulders. Draven may have severed the merge. But his demon had never felt so strong.

This time, the wolf would stand behind the demon. The thought brought a cruel smile to twist across his lips as he met Draven’s stare with a glare of his own.

Staring at him, Draven frowned. Gone was the Lycan. In its place, a creature of pure menace and darkness. With crimson-skinned talons and eyes burning with demonic fury, Hyde exuded an aura of relentless rage.

“What’s the matter? Can’t fight someone you can’t control?” Hyde’s voice dripped with venomous menace, his words laced with a twisted satisfaction

He wasn’t going to wait for an answer. He would tear this king apart.

For every tear that she had shed, for every life he had stolen from her, he would bleed. Nobody hurt what was his.

Letting the blinding rage move him forward, Hyde attacked. His talons digging in and across Draven’s bare, bloodied chest. Weaving under Draven’s fist. Hyde dug his free claw into the vampire’s side. Pulling it free as fast as he had plunged it in.

Unleashing a torrent of blows, blood spraying across his face, his hands leaving trails of smoke as his palms starting to ignite.

Pulling in as much power as he could, Draven knocked him back with a sharp wave of his arm.

Landing on his feet, Hyde growled as he raced forward.

Turning with a growl, his claws taking out the eyes of a vampire springing for him. Easily backhanding the next. Spinning faster than his own eyes could follow, he let his instinct drive through his attacks.

Pain flashing through him, feeding his fury as more and more vampiric hands dragged him down.

“It will be hard to replace you, Hyde” Dravens hand pressing hard over his bloody side. His pain, obvious in his voice even as he smiled. “But not impossible,”

Even as Hyde moved to struggle free of the vampires holding him. Draven held up his hand.

Multiple blood droplets rising to form across Hydes demonic skin. Holding his hand out, Draven called the blood to him. Pulling it into himself. The air was filled with the metallic smell of blood droplets flying towards his wounded side. Faster and faster Draven called the blood to him, his eyes intent on Hydes struggle not to scream.

###

NO.

All she could hear was Hyde’s heart beat. The fury running through him. The frustration. His beasts almost screaming with her as she pulled hard at the chains. He wasn’t supposed to die.

He was hers. He had come for her and she would not let him bloody die.

The chains over her head snapping as she heard the howl of the pack. The room, already furiously in battle, erupting into chaos as the pack burst through onto the vampires.
