She roamed the room, her gaze shifting from tabletop to coffee table to bookshelf. Trying hard to keep calm, Talia ran a hand through her hair, but everywhere she looked she couldn’t find the land line that Marnie had said was here.

Her breathing quickening as her eyes flickered past the two mountain men who were now watching her intently.

“Talia” looking over at Marnie, she couldn’t help the frown that creased her forehead

“can you grab my bag for me?” Nodding, she cast her gaze around one last time for the phone before moving towards Marnies bag.

“What are you looking for” one of men asked her, moving forward on the lounge, his hands resting on his knees as he eyed her.

“the phone” moving past him, she made sure not to brush up against him in the small space between lounge and coffee table.

“we don’t have a phone here” he gave a slow predatory smile.

Talia paused and fixed her gaze on him. Every instinct rising to scream at her.

Ignoring her sudden desire to run, she forced herself to move and pick up Marnies bag by the door. She walked towards the table, her bare feet quiet on the hardwood floor, and slid it across to the dark-haired woman.

“Thanks” pulling the bag to her, Marnie unzipped it quickly, her hands searching through it quickly.

“Is there a phone here?” Talia’s eyes flickered to the door before looking back. Ignoring her, Marnie pulled out a small, familiar black medicine bag. With a flick of her wrist, she tossed it to her boyfriend, who eagerly caught it.

The last time Talia had seen it was when Hyde had drugged her. A knot of fear twisted through her as she saw the mountain man catch it.

“Marnie? The phone?” It wasn’t the question she wanted to ask, she wanted to know what was going on. Who were these men who stared at her like a walking steak?

But watching the man smile as he pulled out a vial of the drug that Hyde had used to suppress her powers. She knew.

She knew it in the cold, clammy sweat that was breaking out over her skin.

“Marnie?” She hated the give away tremble in her voice. She hated that she even still asked. Like a child begging the dark not to be scary.

Giving a sigh, Marnie turned to face her. Yet her words were directed at the man who stood behind her.

“She has been dosed recently, so in the next twelve hours dose her again just to be sure,”

Moving over to Marnie, the man ran his hands over her waist, his fingers sliding under the work shirt she wore to caress her skin. His eyes never leaving Talias.

“You sure she’s the real deal? Her eyes barley look Arcandian?”

Marnie took a step back, swatting his hands away from her. “She’s a throwback, human parents, Arcandian grandparents. You will get a good price, plus ...” picking up her bag, she slung it over her shoulder.

“You get to take something off the Titans,”

“That has its appeal” the cruel smile that twisted his lips twisted Talia’s stomach. Panic clawing at her throat.

She took a step back and felt solid, heavy hands land on her shoulders, causing her to jump.

“Your’re ours now,”

Talia stepped out from their grasp and glared at the two men blocking the doorway.

“I don’t belong to anyone, least of all you.” for a moment her voice didn’t tremble.

“Sorry babes,” Marnie sounded amused, “you now belong to Marcus, but hey at least it’s not the Titans,” giving her a shallow smile. “Trust me, I’ve done you a favour,”

“Not sure I agree with you” the danger in the room was growing with each breath.

“Make sure my payment is in the bank tomorrow” Nodding Marcus didn’t look at her. His eyes drifting over Talia.
