Turning away from Ryder’s hanging body, Draven held up his hand, Ryder’s perfectly round eyeball sitting on his palm.

“You are the most powerful wolf I have ever owned, Hyde. It’s time to put an end to this weakness for women.”

“Yes, Master” the words were smooth, but they both could taste the lie that they were.

Smiling, Draven turned back to the young wolf, forcing the eyeball into Ryder’s mouth. His hand clamping down hard over the young man’s jaw. His disdainful gaze never leaving Hyde’s face as Ryder struggled against the compulsion to swallow.

“You owe me a new bookkeeper, or I will have his other eye as well,”

“Yes Master,”

Sobbing, Ryder swallowed. His gasping breaths were loud in the silence of the room.

Dipping his fingers into the fresh blood spilling down Ryder’s cheek. Draven turned to Hyde. Wiping the blood down the Alpha’s face. His power spilling into Hyde.

This time, he didn’t fight. Didn’t fight when he felt his master grab his wolf, bringing its chaotic energy to lay just under his skin. A moving, living thing that demanded to be free.

With each hard breath, Hyde felt his eyes change. His whole inner being expanding. He knew his eyes were again glowing red, his wolven gaze staring out across the office. The power tied off before he started to shift fully.

Draven was leaving him like this. Leaving him with his demonic wolf, so dangerously close to escaping.

A soft growl spilt out of his lips.

A sneer twisting his lip at the sound, the Vampire stepped back.

“I have a job for you, one to help you overcome your squeamishness,”

His skin closing over the wounds across his chest, Hydes hunger rolled through him. Forcing himself to ignore the deep aroma of Ryder’s blood dripping into the bucket. His senses sharpening, so close to changing, but not. A torture to both man and beast.

Nodding, he took a deep breath through his mouth.

“What do you need?” His speech was deeper, harsher.

His hand reaching into his jacket, the vampire flickered a photo at him. Spiraling through the air, Hyde caught it before it reached the ground.

The youthful woman was beautiful. The photographer had caught her as she was smiling towards a camera. A camera she had never known was following her. Blonde curly hair, a loose mess around her shoulders, a lightness to her that just didn’t fit in his messed up world.

His gut tightening, Hyde stood.

“Find her, bring her to me” Draven moved back to the fire.

“Anything I need to know?”

He had done retrieval work before. But it was against a lot harder targets than a young girl shopping with friends.

“Her grandmother is a witch, the girl may have some power,”

“I’ll need Ryder. He is immune to witchcraft.”

Draven smiled as he glanced at the wolf hanging from the tree.

“I think he will stay and keep me company. Would hate for you to become suddenly squeamish again,”

In that moment, Hyde wanted nothing more than to rip the vampire’s smug head off and watch it decay on the stone floor.

“Unless his punishment is death, he needs to heal, to shift” the words were meant to be cold and empty. But the push of his wolf so close in his skin filled every syllable with growling rage.

Draven waved a dismissive hand and returned his gaze to the crackling fire.
