“So no pressure then,” stepping back, her heart hammering in her chest. Her fingers clutching the velvet box.

Letting her go slowly, Draven reached for his jacket.

“Hyde,”

Turning to face them. His wolven eyes glowing red. The only sign of the anger that must be vibrating through him. His eyes only looking to Draven, he didn’t even spare her another glance.

Feeling uncomfortable, she was kinda glad she didn’t have to look into his eyes at that moment. They confused her enough as it was. And Hyde had a habit of making all sensible thoughts leave her head.

“There is a small contingent arriving tomorrow. Humans that you are to give the very best of your protection to. They have paid for the best, so take them to lodge,”

His eyebrows raising, Hyde took the envelope that Draven held out to him.

“Anything else?”

“Get them anything they ask for. They are to be considered my special guests.”

He gave a brief nod, turning for the door. Every step vibrating with contained malice.

Taking Talia’s hand, Draven followed her gaze to Hyde’s back. His voice was low but clear in the room.

“A good pet is only as good as its training,”

Stopping at the door, his hand resting against the wood. Hyde paused. She could see every muscle bunching. Draven’s hand tightening on hers for the briefest moment it took for the alpha werewolf to let out a pent up breath and push the door open.

Leaving it to swing shut behind him.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Talia closed the doorbehind her and leaned heavily against it, catching her breath. Her fingers rising to brush her lips. Draven’s goodnight kiss had been light. Almost non-existent. A brush of his lips against hers.

Since the rooftop, he hadn’t kissed her deeply again. Almost afraid to act on the passion that she was sure she could see in his eyes.

She took a deep breath before pushing off the door. Her eyes meeting Ghosts as the werewolf settled at the dressing table. Her long legs stretching out in front of her. There was no escaping her eyes that were always watching her.

Placing the weighty tome on the tiny table, Talia breathed a heavy sigh. Placing the ring box on top of it.
