With a squeal that I would deny ever releasing until my dying breath, I dashed across the barn and started up the ladder-stairs thing. I was almost to the top when I heard Asher curse harshly below me.

“What?” I asked, freezing on the spot, and turning to look at him. He was standing at the bottom of the steps, staring up at me with a look of hunger on his face so ravenous, I had to clench my thighs together to try to suppress the sudden tingling I felt there.

“Honest to fuck, Ricki,” Asher growled, his voice low and rough. “I’ve been staring at you in that skirt all goddamn day, and from where I’m standing now, I’m not sure I can go much longer just lookin’ and not touchin’.”

His words had me clenching my hands on the rungs of the ladder, unable to fight off the images they provided.

Asher, with his hands on my calves, his teeth dragging along the skin of my inner thigh.

Yeah, I wanted that.

Badly.

“Well,” I teased, intentionally bending more at the waist to allow him an even better look up my skirt. “If you want to touch me, you’ll have to catch me first.”

With that, I darted forward, my boots steady on the treads, even with the amount of adrenaline coursing through my system.

This was new to me, this cat-and-mouse thing, and I found I very much liked it.

Popping through the hole at the top of the ladder, I found myself in the dim hayloft, the space lit by only two single bulbs dangling from the curved ceiling. In front of me, stacks of baled hay stood in an orderly fashion, lined up in neat rows to make it easily accessible, each row stacked at least four bales high so I couldn’t see what was beyond them.

I only paused for a second, the sound of Asher’s heavy footsteps behind me pushing me forward, and I darted in between the two nearest rows of bales, trying to get my ass as far away from the ladder as possible. It was even darker in the stacks, the low light muted by the dust my boots kicked up as I moved as quickly and quietly as I could, biting my own lips to contain my sudden urge to giggle.

Giggle?

Who the fuck was I?

And why did I like it so much?

“Come out, come out wherever you are,” Asher crooned. His voice sounded muted as it reached me where I stood, at what I thought was the opposite end of the barn. Now that I was in it, I could see that the bales were all lined up in rows, with space between them, but also zigzagging, creating a maze of pathways between them that I assumed was used to allow air to move and keep the hay from getting damp.

Right now, it was definitely working in my favor, because I was darting from side to side with no sign that Asher had followed me down this row.

“You think you can hide from me, Betty-girl?” he asked, that sexy rumble sounding like it was closer than before, and I froze, trying my best to calm my breathing and my racing heart. I was certain that he could hear it thumping behind my ribs, the rapid beat calling to him like a war drum. “There’s nowhere you can hide from me. Nowhere I won’t find you.” He paused again, and I took the opportunity to move to the next aisle over, walking slowly backwards to keep my eyes pointed in the direction of the ladder, hoping I’d gotten far enough away to swing around and evade him again. “No matter where you go, baby, or how far you run, I will always be right behind you. Because you and me?”

Silence.

I tilted my head, straining my ears to try to see where Asher had gone, but I couldn’t hear anything over my own blood pounding excitedly in my ears.

This? This was hot as fuck.

“We’re inevitable.”

The sudden sound of Asher’s voice right behind me was so shocking, I couldn’t help the scream that escaped my throat. I launched myself forward, my natural instinct being to flee, but Asher was too quick, wrapping his arms around me before my feet even touched the ground again.

But I wasn’t going down without a fight.

As he pulled me close, my back to his chest, I had a split second when I swore I could feel his heart thrashing just as mine was, and I smiled, loving the fact that he seemed to be enjoying the hunt as much as I wanted to be hunted. But as quickly as I noted those things, I was moving again, surprising Asher as I fought to get away.

He hesitated, letting me go, and I scrambled away, putting distance between us before I turned to face him. I could see the question on his face, wondering how far I was willing to take this, so I gave him my answer.

“Close, Asher,” I said, smiling as I ran my hands down my body, pressing against the sides of my breasts, compressing them and accentuating my cleavage enticingly. I watched him as I did, seeing his gaze darkening with lust once more, and I dipped my hands between my thighs, allowing my fingers to disappear under my skirt where I knew he wanted to be.

“But not close enough. Show me what you’ve got, big guy.”

With one final smile, I spun, intending to flee again, but it seemed that this time I’d pushed Asher too far. With a snarl, he lunged at me, his lightning fast speed letting me know that he’d definitely been holding back so far. I screamed again, unable to contain the pure surge of joyful energy our little game had built in me, and as we collided, we went down, both of us tumbling together into a soft pile of hay against one wall. Asher rolled us to take the brunt of the fall himself, meaning I came down nearly right on top of him, my ass nestled right against the hard press of his cock straining behind his jeans.

He hissed as we collided, and I grasped his forearms where I could reach, sinking my nails into his skin, desperate for some kind of grounding contact. I was pure electricity, and I needed release or I’d implode.
