“You probably want to put on a shirt, so you don’t embarrass your mate when you go outside. The men will start making comments that I don’t think your sweet mate is quite ready to hear if they see all those marks on you,” she stated drawing his attention to the long nail marks down his chest.
The smile returned to his lips, deepening when he heard Aubree’s sleepy sigh of his name as she came into the front room. He was thankful she was dressed in another of those sundresses she’d had hidden in her bag, but he preferred her naked.
Your sister doesn’t need to see that, big guy.
He smiled more, drawing her into his side before giving her a soft kiss as she settled into his hold. Her hand rested on his stomach, and it rumbled with hunger for food he’d ignored for the last day. It reminded him that he needed to feed his girl and he grabbed up a shirt before attempting to braid Aubree’s hair pulling her brows up a hint.
“Need to feed you but I don’t want anyone touching all of this beauty,” he grumbled when she pulled away from him a hint.
“Give me a minute because I need to grab something for under this dress if we’re leaving this room,” she warned, making his cock heavy all over again.
His eyes followed her until the bathroom door shut and he turned back to Katya with a tiny glare. “Why did you come bothering us? We didn’t bother you when you and Brian ran off for days.”
“Momma was getting worried about your mate, because well, let’s face it big brother, you’re big and she’s little, but also because you hadn’t requested food for her in days. Even when Brian and I were off together alone, we still had food dropped off daily while we slept. She’s anxious for more grandbabies so she wants to ensure your mate’s properly cared for,” Katya teased him, putting spots of color in his cheeks when the bathroom door reopened and Aubree moved back towards them, her hair braided over her shoulder looking absolutely stunning.
“You could have just left food at the door instead of bothering me while I was waiting for my mate to wake,” he grumbled but his frustration fell when Aubree slid back into his hold with a smile at Katya.
“That other thing you requested we look into arrived, figured it’d be better to calm them with the knowledge that nothing’s wrong than have them wait until you finally came up for air,” Katya teased, and he let out a deep breath before guiding his mate down to the dining room the family used most mornings for breakfast. They had a pack dining room as well but whenever they were in it, they were more likely to be asked questions and having breakfast as a family was important to them. Especially after they lost Katya when she was a baby.
He dropped a kiss onto Aubree’s lips before they moved into the space, drawing a slight gasp from the room. Heath ushered her inside, letting her see the older woman and man, along with the boy that was around Aubree’s age and the two younger girls standing tensely inside it.
“Aubree?” the boy said, glancing from her up to him and his eyes widened further seeing the marks on their necks.
“Matt?” Aubree said, her jaw dropping before she turned to him with a huge smile. “Thank you!”
“Anything for you, little doe,” he said, putting smiles onto the new arrivals faces as he moved them all to the table, asking Samantha for waffles making Aubree flush slightly recalling the ones from her birthday.
“I don’t understand,” Matt’s mom Marissa said glancing from her family back to them. “Why are we here?”
“I promised Aubree I’d find out what happened to your family after she told me about what occurred three years ago. She was worried and I wanted to reassure her that nothing worse than being forced out actually happened. I was prepared to bring her home with me any way possible to keep that scum from getting near her, whether that meant as my mate or just under my protection, not realizing she wasn’t quite eighteen yet,” Heath said, putting a smile on the woman’s face he completely understood.
“And now not only is he no longer on the council but also no longer overseeing the pack. He’s actually in a cell and will be for the rest of his life,” Katya added.
“We heard the territory alpha was also arrested,” Matt said glancing between their group curiously.
“Dad took him to task before he was locked in his cell. He was furious to learn that a territory alpha was selling off underage girls. It’s one of the things that he hates most,” Katya stated, and Heath squeezed her hand giving her a smile.
“It’s because it makes him remember how much we all missed you when you were taken from us. But now, you’re part of us, just as Aubree is, and if you’d like, you’re welcome to remain here as well,” Heath said looking towards Matt’s father, so he knew it was his choice of where they went, whether that was back to their old pack, staying wherever they were now, or coming here.
“Could we really stay here?” Matt’s younger sister Bethany asked in shock.
“If that’s what your family would like, yes. I think Aubree wouldn’t mind some familiar faces around,” he said, reading it in her eyes. “She mentioned that you worked in the nursery at the pack,” he added to Marissa, and she nodded with a smile at Aubree. “My mother is holding her breath for us to start having more, so there will be plenty to hold in the coming years I’m certain.”
“Looks like you found a good one,” Matt said giving his mate a friendly smile that while ruffled his fur, didn’t send him into full force possessiveness. “I think we’d be more than happy to stay though, to be honest, we’re not exactly welcome where we currently are thanks to Morrow.”
“I’ll tell the guards to have the rest of your things brought out and get a house ready for you,” Katya told them, making their eyes widen a bit further. “We don’t use omega classifications here. Families are given houses and can choose from an array of jobs they’d like in order to help further the goals of the pack. Since you’re over eighteen Matt, you can choose if you’d prefer to stay in the house with your parents or you can have a room in the men’s dorms. You’d have your own small space, they only have a tiny kitchen in them, but each has a private full bathroom, and then the dorm has an area to hang out with others around your age.”
“Are you serious?” Matt said and when they nodded, Heath knew his answer was going to be a big fat yes about having his own space. He’d want it too if he was eighteen and single, but having his mate was far better than anything he had back then, and he’d never go back. Not even to erase all the year’s he’d waited to find his little doe.
Epilogue
Aubree hummed softly to herself as she finished folding the last of the baby outfits to put into bins to give away. Their littlest ones wouldn’t fit into them any more and since Adelyn was now two, she definitely didn’t need to keep the newborn outfits in the chest of drawers in their room any longer.
It was a bit sad to think of giving them away, but she knew other parents would put them to good use. She was still keeping her favorite outfits from all of their babies, but there was no need to keep a chest full of baby girl outfits and a chest full of baby boy outfits in their space.
Perhaps they could put in a sofa in the space instead of the dressers and crib, making another spot where she could lounge on Heath’s chest when she was too sated to move. That thought made her smile entirely and her mind turned over to thoughts of her mate loving her on it.
She couldn’t believe it’d been fifteen years since she’d met her mate, since he’d made her his. Then again, seeing the nieces and nephews having their own babies certainly made it real. Let alone seeing their oldest Drake next to his father. He was fourteen, born eight and a half months after they were home, two weeks early and a huge baby. She’d been amazed she actually was able to carry, let alone give birth to him, but Serena told her that Heath was even bigger than her ten-pound baby boy and two weeks earlier than even Drake was.
