In the grip of that crazed tumble of thoughts, he started to move. It was a rhythm as powerful as the hands that held her. His eyes never left her stretched and parted lips, her glazed gaze, the arch of her body toward him, taking him all with every new thrust.

When he came, it pushed her into a second orgasm. Her arms pulled against her bonds, the sense of helpless restraint adding to the overwhelming wave of reaction. When she finished, she was like a ring dancer in a circus, her mind spinning under the lights. He finished with his rough cheek against hers, his body shuddering with a climax that seemed as if it had been gratifyingly as strong as her own. He leaned against her, the cross holding them both up as their breaths lifted and fell.

Their hearts had charged up into the heavens together. Now they came back down with a steady, earth-bound rhythm, bodies reluctant to separate.

At length, though, he eased out of her body and freed her from her bonds. He held her with her arms and legs wrapped around him and brought her back to the table. He laid her face down on the mat, checked the marks he’d left on her, then kissed each one as she shuddered. He also kissed her fading bruises from their day in the river.

The aftermath of the fireplay really was similar to a sunburn, including that sleepy feeling that came with it. Like after a day on the beach, enjoying all the best things the vastness of the ocean, blue sky and sunshine could offer. She clutched his hand, and when he finally sat her up, she had to keep saying it, over and over, in a whisper like the tides.

“I love you. I love you.”

She must be experiencing what they called subspace, if subspace was defined as becoming a little unhinged. But she guessed that was the way her Master wanted her. When she shared that, he smiled. It only made the hard planes of his face more attractive to her, the fire cop, the firefighter hero, the man who loved her.

“Let me show you something.” He moved over to the other table, returning with a long-necked lighter and can of hair mousse.

As she watched, muzzy but curious, he clasped her hand with his free one. He sprayed a foam line on his own arm, starting at the biceps, moving down to their joined hands, over her wrist and forearm, up to her biceps. Setting the can down at the far end of the table, he picked up the lighter he’d left beside her and touched the flame to the mousse on his biceps.

She drew in a breath as blue flame followed the line of mousse like a living thing, going from his arm, over their clasped hands, to the top of her arm before vanishing. He touched the lighter to the mousse again, kept doing it, so she could watch the flow of the flame in her direction.

“Can I try?”

He handed her the lighter. “Just touch it to the edge of the mousse on your arm and let go of the trigger.”

Enchanted, she watched the flame run back in his direction. She did it a couple more times, feeling the ripple of heat between them. It was a meditative exercise that centered and brought her back to earth, even as it had a dreamy quality that kept her pleasantly floating.

Leave it to her Master to come up with a unique form of aftercare. When he at last took the lighter back, he wiped the mousse off their arms with the towel. He had her drink some water and eat a Little Debbie oatmeal cookie, a reminder of childhood pleasures.

“Where’s my juice box?” she asked. “Every kitten sub needs a juice box with her Little Debbie.”

Brick was applying the vitamin E to her back with his strong, rough hands, but she heard the smile in his voice. “I’ll ask Julie to consult with Mick on her future stock of aftercare treats.”

He returned to her front. “Air and cool water are best, but you can do more of the vitamin E if you think you need it until it stops being stingy. While I’d prefer to do it, have Beulah help you if I’m not there.”

“Thanks, doctor.” She looked at him, a crooked smile on her face. She was sitting naked before him. He’d re-fastened his jeans, but he hadn’t found his shirt. She was good with that, even though…

“Come here.” He bent and lifted her. Leaving the stage, he carried her down the hallway to the bedroom. As he laid her on the bed there, she voiced the desire. He’d said she could tell him what she needed, after all.

“Can you be naked, like me?”

“I can’t be as pretty as you are that way, but yeah.” When he took off the rest of his clothes and joined her, she nestled back into him, letting out a contented little sigh. She didn’t mind the tenderness of her skin, though he didn’t press as close to her as he normally would, treating the area with care. She only wanted him to do the vitamin E. She only wanted him, period.

“Are we staying here tonight?” She knew it wasn’t a good idea, that she needed to do some things to get ready to go back to class and the hospital tomorrow. But how could any woman, feeling the way she did right now, in her lover’s arms, think she should do otherwise?

“No. You need time to get settled and be ready to do doctoring.”

He knew how to help her take care of herself. She liked that. Just as she liked hearing the same reluctance in his voice. “But we’ll take a few moments. A short nap. You wore me out, doc.”

She smiled. His cock was firm against her. She had a feeling after their cat nap, he’d want to be inside her one more time. A reminder of that marking and branding. He trailed his fingers over where he’d actually marked her, with the charm and cross, and pressed a light kiss next to it.

As they lay there, their dozing mixed with quiet murmurs, strokes and touches, her mind drifted to the past few days. It was astounding to think of how long a road she’d traveled in the short time since Llanzo’s death. But as Brick and even her own mother had told her, the journey had reached much further into the past, and healed things she hadn’t realized needed to be healed.

When she shared that, Brick kissed that same spot again, making the impression of the badge and cross tingle near his lips. “Physician, heal thyself. Before you go forth and heal the shit out of everyone else.”

She laughed. “I’ll make a plaque and put that on the wall of my first office.”

“It will be my graduation gift to you. So you never forget.”

“No. I’ll buy that one for myself. You’re already giving me a graduation gift.”

He would bring her a ring. But in a surge of happiness, fragile and timeless at once, she knew he’d already long ago given her the gift that ring would represent.

His commitment and his heart. Her Master, who’d known just the right time to let her unwrap the gift she’d always wanted.
