He nibbled up the sensitive skin of her neck, leaving a trail of goosebumps, and captured her mouth. She moaned and parted her lips, swirling her tongue with his, savoring his minty breath. He slid his hands down to her hips, rocking her against his rigid length.

With a reluctant sigh, Nick lifted his head. “I absolutely want to be with you. At whatever pace works for you. We can go slow. But in the spirit of carpe diem…”

He released her and dropped to one knee and caught both her hands with his.

“Nick?” Her skin prickled, and the tiny hairs on her arms stood at attention.

He gazed deep into her eyes, pinning her in place. “The other day, I came by to invite you up to Paso Robles with me. I had a twenty-four-hour romantic getaway planned. I can’t wait for that, though.”

Her eyes widened, and the butterflies started beating in her belly. Her breath lodged in her throat.

He squeezed her hands and plunged on. “You are my everything. My dream. You make me want to be a better man. I’ve never loved another woman before. I love you with all my heart and promise to spend the rest of my life making you the happiest woman alive. And we can wait months or even years if you need them, but I hope you won’t. Will you marry me?”

Nick reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, flipped it open to reveal the most exquisite diamond ring she’d ever seen.

Sophie released a shaky exhale and tears filled Sophie’s eyes. This handsome, strong, incredible man was offering her his heart. And was willing to go at her pace.

Happiness burst through her heart, and tears of joy rolled down her cheeks. “Oh, Nick, I love you so much. Do you mean that you’ll wait as long as I need?”

“It does. But is that a yes?”

She laughed through the tears. “I love that from the moment we met, you’ve been persistent and convinced I should be with you, no matter what. And yes, absolutely yes I will marry you Nicholas Morgan.”

His beautiful lips curved upwards in a wide grin. He slid the ring onto her finger, and it fit perfectly.

He rose and pulled her up and into his arms. “I love you, Sophie. I hope you don’t make me wait too long but knowing you’re wearing my ring and declaring to the world you’re mine makes me happier than I ever imagined.”

“Let me show you how much…” Nick swept her into his arms and carried her to the bedroom.

Joy filled her and she tugged his head down for another kiss. Somehow she knew the wedding wouldn’t be too far away. A certainty filled her that Nick was her one and only. Especially if he continued to carry her to bed.
