I finally ran out of breath and energy and collapsed down to a chair.

I sat in silence, sitting in all kinds of pain.

I couldn’t help but remind myself this was all worth it… just to be near Fiona even for a second… it was all worth it.

Chapter Thirty-Five

FIONA

Isensed the first punch before it happened.

So much so that I blamed myself for the fight breaking out.

I saw the blood on Riff’s face right away and I covered my mouth.

I hated my brother.

Then Riff punched Remi in the face.

I hated Riff.

“Okay,” I said. “Punch for punch. It’s over now.”

It was far from over.

They attacked each other like I had never seen before.

“No!” I screamed at the television screen. I clapped my hands together and kept screamingNOas though they could hear me.

I shut my eyes and began to think really hard.

Envisioning them not fighting anymore.

I pictured them hugging. Laughing. Blood on their faces.

It all works out.

They end up best friends again.

It all works out perfectly.

My brother isn’t such an asshole.

I have Riff all to myself.

I can be in love. I can feel things. I can be happy.

Riff makes me happy!

I opened my eyes.

The fight still raged on.

Two guys on the same team fighting.

It was uncomfortable to watch.

Even more because I knew the background to this intense hatred.
