“Where is Wraith?” I asked.

“In the armory,” Silver said. “Leave him there for now.”

I brushed over Four-leaf with my power. “There’s definitely residue on him.” The little bits of magic clinging to him were alien.

“Yes,” Silver said. “There is. But just like the men who attacked us the other night, there’s notenoughresidue.”

It took far less magic to entrance a human than it did a fae. The rest of it was dictated by the willingness of the soul being enchanted. The men we’d left dead on the Legion’s border were human and had been under a spell, but they’d also been willing.

The amount of magic needed to force someone against their will was tangible. You couldfeelwhen someone had been completely taken in. Like someone being fae-struck. It was different.

Someone who was willing and eager? They sometimes took on magic for a purpose. Like the dead humans. They’d been paid to be put under and attack us, thinking they’d be rich and not dead.

The magic remnants on Four-leaf weren’t enough to have forced him against his will.

My body turned cold.

“He won’t tell the truth.”

“No.” Silver agreed.

Delta flicked his knife closed and blew a bubble. “Hell of a time to not be able to read his mind.”

“I need you to dig, Delta. Find out if there’s any proof he did this on purpose or wanted to do it. Grave, take him to the basement. My power will hold him in limbo.” He smiled grimly. “Good thing there’s church tonight.”

Grave hauled Four-leaf up and took him out the back. With Silver’s power holding him, there was no fight or resistance. Delta popped his bubble. “I’ll see what I can find.”

“Comet, get the girls over to Skyla’s place. She needs them.”

I nodded. “You going to tell Wraith?”

“I will. Later. I want to see what Delta finds. Because if there’s nothing, I might need to call in a favor.”

“A favor?”

“Yeah.” He sighed. “But I’d rather not. I’m going to the gym. If I don’t pound something into dust, I’m going to lose it.”

I clapped him on the shoulder before heading out to grab Skyla’s friends. “Let me know when you’re finished. I’m going to need a turn.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

____________

SKYLA

WHO NEEDS CHURCH?

The door to my apartment opened. I heard it, but didn’t move. I hadn’t since they left me here, enjoying relaxing and petting Cream Puff, who eventually started purring again.

“Hey, beautiful.”

I opened my eyes to find Comet kneeling in front of me. He grinned before he kissed me, and when he kissed Cream Puff on the head as well, my heart melted entirely. “Hey.”

“I brought you people.”

“How many people?”

He chuckled. “Four. But only three are staying long.” Slipping a hand beneath me, he helped me sit up. Maggie stood in the doorway to the living room with an expression between worry and anger. Clem and Jessie stood behind her, looking around at the apartment, and Rocketman was closer.
