“Wow.”

“Once you are one of us, you’ll feel closer to this all the time.”

I laughed and lifted Puff onto my lap from where she’d been huddled in a little loaf. “Can’t wait for that. I know you’re not a veterinarian, but could you—”

“Of course.” He set three fingers on the top of her head.

Puff meowed, standing in my hands and shaking out her body. She blinked up at the two of us, her eyes clear and vibrant. He’d taken away what was pulling her down as well.

“Thank you.”

Rocketman stood. “It’s no trouble, Skyla. I’m glad you’re well and there’s no damage. Have fun unpacking.” He grinned before he left.

“Okay.” Maggie swept back into the room and collapsed on the couch beside me. “We’refinallyalone.”

Clementine and Jessie came back empty-handed. Already, the pile in the center of the room seemed smaller. “You guys really don’t mind helping me unpack?”

“Not at all,” Clementine opened a box that looked like it had dishes in it. Then she grinned. “If I end up living here permanently I expect you bitches to help with mine.”

“Done.” I stood and grabbed another box, peeking inside. Stuff for my bathroom, my vibrators, and my e-reader. “Jackpot. This is the important box, ladies.” I raised one of the vibrators and they laughed.

I put away the box, and they tackled more of them. Clementine was right. It barely took an hour to get everything put away.

“I had one of the guys go get something for me,” Maggie said. “It’s a gift for you.”

“What?”

She tossed a stiff plastic package into my lap, and I started laughing. It was a padlock. A shitty one that wouldn’t keep them out, but I was absolutely going to put it on the door.

“I have to admit, this is nice.” I gestured to the four of us. “Getting to hang out without actually having to live together.”

“Good sex,” Jessie said.

“Yeah, thanks for that.” Maggie made a face. “My vibrator’s going to get a workout.”

I tossed a little feathered toy across the floor for Cream Puff. “There’s no one here? Really?”

She shrugged. “Maybe.”

“I saw you eyeing at least three of the guys last night,” Clementine went digging in the bag she’d brought. “Go for it. Pull a Skyla and get them all to fuck you at the same time.”

A gasp flew out of me. “How did you know they did that?”

“I didn’t,” she grinned. “But I do now.”

“Bitch,” I laughed and flipped her off.

She found what she was looking for—two bottles of wine. “You fit both of those in there?”

“I’m magic. Don’t change the subject. I… Brian and I are good and I’m still jealous of you getting ravaged by those five men.”

Pink colored my cheeks, and she pulled out the wind glasses from where we’d just put them away. “Were you just about to say you love him?”

“Absolutely not.”

“Bullshit,” Jessie said with a laugh. “Let’s be real. None of us are going to open up without the wine, so let’s get started. Not like any of us are going to church.”

Maggie went and retrieved her glass of wine. “Maybe we make this a thing. Anti-church. Alt-church?”
