Her jaw dropped. “Youwhat?”

“They gave me all of Kramer’s money, and I don’t know yet, but I think there was an insurance settlement on the Crimson Petal. If you want, I will give you a million dollars right the fuck now.”

“Holy shit.”

“It’s my fault you’re in this mess,” I said. “I’m going to make sure you never have to worry about anything because of it. And I know you don’t mind working at Sip Happens. But you don’thaveto. You can do whatever you want. What do you want?”

My best friend stared at me blankly. “I don’t know.”

Looping my arm through hers once more, I pulled her toward her new home. “Take some time to think about it.”

“Yeah.”

“Does that make you feel any better?”

She laughed. “A little. But I’m definitely where you were a few days ago. I understand how overwhelming it is.”

“Tell me about it.”

This morning I woke up in Comet’s arms. All of last night felt like a dream, though the soreness in my limbs told me it was anything but. I wanted to see the video, but I hadn’t seen Delta yet to ask him. I also knew I couldn’t control what happened once any of us watched that video, so it might have to wait.

My fae side was dormant again, but she was a bit closer to the surface now.

“Have they been bothering you?” I asked Maggie as we entered the building.

“Who?”

“The Legion.”

She shook her head. “We haven’t seen them at all. It’s like they vanished. We know they haven’t, obviously, but it’s actually been nice. Everyone is more relaxed.”

Chills prickled down my spine. “That’s probably not good.”

“No. But I’ll enjoy it even if it’s not.”

We walked into her new apartment. Not nearly the level of luxury that mine or the leaders had, but it was nice. Nicer than the apartment she and I had shared for years.

“Well,” she said, looking at the neatly piled stack of things in the living room. “I can’t exactly complain about this, can I?”

“Of course you can. You’re allowed to complain about anything you want.”

Maggie sighed and pulled me into a hug. “Thanks. Sorry I’m crabby. Maybe I’m just annoyed that everyone shacking up here gets to have amazing sex and I don’t.”

A laugh burst out of me. “There’s nothing saying you can’t. You’re just going to have to make the first move.”

She turned and went to her suitcase and popped it open. “In that case, I brought supplies.” The dresses in the case were certainly not what I’d call casual attire.

“Mags, I don’t think you’re going to have to wear that to get laid here.”

“Don’t spoil my fun. If I’m going to be here, I’m going to make the most of it.”

I laughed and picked up some more of the clothes from the suitcase and carried them into the closet. “I’m going to need your help unpacking. I haven’t had a chance yet.”

“Because you’ve been busy getting dicked down by your five fae lovers?” Maggie snickered. “I’m so sympathetic.”

Chucking a shirt at her head, I stuck out my tongue. It was nice to let go a little and try not to worry, though everything still lurked in the background.

Grave came in with another load of Maggie’s things, sending us both into another round of giggles. Everything was shit, but at least we had a laugh.
