“We have to move,” he growled at me. The glow in his eyes was slowly starting to return, and it was sort of horrifyingly-fascinating to watch. “The volcano’s going to explode.”

Thewhatwas going towhat?

“What are you talking about?” I breathed. “This is a dream, isn’t it? I—”

“The magic is going to take ahold of me again any second, Vriva. Make me carry you as far away as possible.” His eyes glowed brighter and brighter by the second, his voice somehow both smooth and growly.

The magic was going to take ahold of him?

What the hell did that mean?

Thiswasjust a dream, wasn’t it?

He dipped his head down, brushing his lips over mine once more before his body went unnaturally still.

The ground rumbled harder beneath my back, and the smoke began to billow out above us thicker and darker.

What was happening?

Was a volcano seriously about to explode?

What if this wasn’t a dream?

I could feel the ground rumbling; I could smell the thick smoke.

And I’d sure as hell felt the massive guy kissing me.

And my subconscious really wasn’t this crafty, so…

Shit, this wasn’t a dream.

“Carry me away from here,” I urged the glowing-eyed guy, as he’d instructed me.

He stared down at me, not even flinching.

Now that we weren’t making out, and I’d realized it wasn’t a dream, the glowing eyes were kind of freaky.

“Get off me,” I raised my voice at him, pushing at his chest a little. “We need to get away from this volcano.”

I couldn’t believe I was saying that aloud.

I couldn’t believe any of this was real, either.

But what other choice did I have? I could hope it was still just a dream, but if it wasn’t… well, I didn’t want to drown in fuckinglava.

The ground began to rumble harder, and the guy didn’t budge.

I wiggled out from underneath him, thankful for the naturally-large cushion my ass was, and then rolled away from him. There was a bit of a downhill to my side, but I managed to catch myself after only two more rolls downward.

When I stopped rolling, my palms were splayed out on the edges of some rough rock, my face hanging over the edge of…

A fucking volcano.

The ground beneath me formed some kind of bowl, over which I was hanging on a ledge that didn’t look even somewhat stable. I could see lava in the center of the bowl, boiling in a pool of reddish-orange-black. It was far enough below me that I couldn’t make out details, thankfully.

But now I was sure that guy hadn’t been joking.

And there was no mistaking fiction from reality when my face began to burn in the lava-hot smoke coming up from theactual lava.
