“We aren’t seeing each other,” she said. It wasn’t a lie.

“Do you want to see him naked?” Daisy asked, grinning.

“Would you be shocked if I said I had?”

Daisy jumped off the stool and put her hands on his hips “What!? When? I thought we were like best friends. You have to share these things.”

“You hadn’t even moved in yet when it happened,” she said. Again not a lie.

“Oh,” Daisy said, sitting back down. “You hooked up at the wedding? Did you have a lot to drink or something? I never expected that of you.”

“I know. I didn’t have a lot to drink. I knew what I was doing. I just found myself at the bar by myself finishing my wine and was going to leave and he was there too. One thing led to another.”

“Wow. Then what happened?”

“Nothing,” she said. “He went back to his life and I continued with mine. I was shocked to see him at the Christmas party. I had no idea he was in town let alone moving here.”

“This is getting interesting,” Daisy said. “I told you he had eyes on you that night and you never said a word.”

“Not much to say,” she said. She moved over to get her coffee.

“Is there something to say now? I know you didn’t talk to him that I could see at the Christmas party. We were there together.”

She didn’t bother to say she talked to Luke at the bar. It wasn’t anything worth mentioning that night.

“I ran into him again on New Year’s Eve. I went to get beer and he was there too.”

“You hooked up with him that night. I know you did,” Daisy said, pointing her finger. “I was gone and you were antsy before I left. Like you couldn’t wait for me to leave and I couldn’t figure it out. Did he come over and then leave before I got there?”

Damn. She hadn’t realized she was watched this closely before. “It’s like being at home with my brothers again. Are you spying on me?”

“No,” Daisy said. “But I know you fairly well. Come on, tell me. Please?”

“He didn’t come here. But I went to his place. We had dinner and then I got home before midnight.”

“After you had sex again. Tell me I’m right.”

“Fine, you’re right.”

“I’m happy, jealous, and annoyed at the same time.”

“Why?” she asked.

“Happy you got some action. Jealous you are getting some action. Annoyed you didn’t tell me you were getting some action.”

She laughed. “It was the last action I’ve gotten and last night was the first we’ve talked since again.”

Daisy frowned. “Is this just a friend with benefits thing?”

“No,” she said. “It’s not what I want. It's more like we said we were going to live in the present. He’s got a lot going on in his life. When he’s done with his training in a few months he’s not sure where he’s going to be stationed. Why get involved and then he has to move?”

“That makes no sense,” Daisy said.

“It makes complete sense. But the truth is, both times we never exchanged numbers. We had no way to get in touch with each other.”

Daisy started to laugh. “That’s funny and you know it. You know where he lives. He knows where you work. You both could have just shown up at those places. You work on his best friend’s property on top of it.”

“That’s right and he hasn’t shown up.”
