He had time to take off. He wanted to know why his mother wasn’t doing this, but he wouldn’t dare ask. His mother was probably too busy hooking up with some new man and couldn’t break away to help her parents out.

“I know you’re busy, Sawyer. We’ll manage.”

“No,” he said. “I’ll go. I want to hear what they’ve got to say.”

“Thank you so much. It will be good to see you too.”

He hung up a few minutes later and turned to look at Faith. “What’s going on? Everything okay with your grandparents?”

“It’s my mother’s parents. My grandfather is having some heart issues and they are confused and he won’t have surgery yet it sounds like he needs it.”

“You’re going to see them next weekend?” she asked.

“Yes. It’s better in person. I haven’t seen them in over a year and should make more time.”

“Why don’t you?” she asked. She moved closer to him and ran her hand up and down his arm.

“I don’t know. Life happens. They are a few hours away, so it’s a long day.”

“You should make time for your family,” she said.

“I know,” he said. “I am.”

“I hate to ask this,” she said.

“Go ahead. I’m sure I know what you’re going to say.”

“If they are confused, why isn’t your mother going with them to appointments?”

“No clue,” he said. “I’m not going to ask or bring it up. I’ll take care of it and go from there. But that means though we spend time together on the weekends, I won’t be around next weekend.”’

“Then we’ll make the best of this weekend,” she said. “We both have a life. I don’t expect to spend every moment with you.”

He never wanted to do that either with another woman, but with Faith, he kind of did.

Nothing To Report

“How is my favorite brother doing?” Faith asked Liam on Wednesday.

She'd gotten out of work a little early and was picking up dinner for her and Sawyer. He was trying to get out early too and was going to stay the night.

“Good,” Liam said. “And how are you?”

“Fine,” she said. “I will be even better knowing I don’t have to cook tonight. Where is Margo?”

“She was off today,” he said. “She had an appointment.”

“Everything okay?” she asked. “Any baby news?”

“It’s just an annual appointment. You’re worse than Aunt Jolene. No baby.”

“Darn,” she said. “I can’t wait for a niece or nephew.”

Liam laughed. “I’ll make your food now. You’re here earlier than I thought you’d be. It said for four thirty pickup.”

“I know,” she said. “I wanted to come talk to you.”
