“I know what is going on,” he said quietly.

She frowned. “From Aunt Jolene? She’s been trying to set me up as long as she has been the rest of you guys.”

She was in the smaller kitchen for the pub. No one cared if Faith came back here, but she was off to the side. She knew Liam would go back to work in a minute and she’d go upstairs and visit with her cousins while she waited. Or to the bar where at least Brody would be working. Aimee was still out on leave until the end of this month.

“Mom,” he said.

She wanted to growl. “What did she say?”

“Not much,” he said. “Don’t worry. I just know you’re wanting to play with Aunt Jolene like the rest of us. Mom wants to know when she is here so they can come to dinner. You know Aunt Jolene will seek them out and bring you up. She said she needs to find out about the guy Aunt Jolene has in mind.”

“Did she tell you who that was?” she asked.

“No,” Liam said, frowning. “Do you know?”

She wanted to say no but since Uncle Gavin said Sawyer’s name she couldn’t lie. She decided to just tell him the same as what her mother knew, to a point. “Uncle Gavin is in on this more with me for some reason.”

“Just like Ella,” Liam said.

“Yeah. He commented on me not being a good fit for Sawyer.”

“Sawyer who?”

She shrugged. “He didn’t give a last name and I didn’t ask. That would show I had some kind of interest and I didn’t want to lead them on. Mom wants to find out what she can.”

“Good for you getting Mom on your side. And by the way, Aunt Jolene is upstairs.”

“Really?” she asked. Talk about rotten luck.

“Yep. So you might want to hide. Mom and Dad will be here soon too.”

“I’m going to go upstairs while you cook my food. Might as well do what I’ve been doing so she doesn’t think she has a leg up.”

Faith walked away and went upstairs. She heard kids’ voices coming from Ella’s office and popped her head in there.

There was her cousin holding Landon while Madison was coloring on a smaller table. “Is it Bring Your Kids to Work day?” she asked.

“Faith,” her aunt said. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to get dinner for the night. Liam is making it now and I thought I’d come up and visit with whoever was here.”

“I was watching Ella’s kids today and brought them back for her. It’s shorter to drop them off here and then I can check in on the rest of the family.”

“You mean find out why Kendra still doesn’t have a ring on her finger?” Ella asked.

“I’m not sure what is going on with your cousin. But since Faith is here, Kendra gets a break,” her aunt said.

“No reason you have to give Kendra a break. I’ve got nothing to report.”

“You need to find someone,” her aunt said.

“Uncle Gavin said the guy you had picked out for me wouldn’t work. So I guess you need to start from scratch. You know as well as I do, he knows best between the two of you.”

Ella started to laugh and her aunt all but growled and stomped her foot, then plastered a smile on her face. “Your uncle isn’t always right. You should know that by now. Do you want to know about this man?”

“Nope,” she said. “No reason to.”

She wasn’t lying. She knew what she needed to know.
