The ride in the elevator is super quiet. I cling to Chance’s neck and keep my face buried. He chuckles softly and rubs my back.

“Your apartment or mine?” he whispers. I look up at him, and he kisses me gently.

“Chance,” I giggle, burying my face in his shirt again. My cheeks burn from embarrassment. Chance never had a problem with P.D.A. It was always me who was timid and worried about what others thought.

“I’ll behave,” he chuckles and kisses me on my forehead.

He is a man of his word and doesn’t try anything for the remainder of the elevator ride. He carries me through the hallway and to my apartment door.

“My keys are in my purse,” I say, looking at Chance. He looks over his shoulder, and Carlito holds out my purse. I take it from him.

“Thank you,” I smile.

“My pleasure,” Carlito bows his head.

I dig through my purse and pull out my keys. Chance gestures toward the door. I quickly lean over and unlock it.

“Open it, Beautiful,” Chance instructs me. I turn the doorknob and open the door. “Leave us.”

“Yes, Boss,” the men say. Carlito sets Chance’s bag inside my apartment. Then he and the others leave. Chance carries me inside and closes the door with his foot.

“Chance, you can set e down now,” I laugh and try to squirm from his hold.

“Not a chance,” he grins. “Not every day I get to carry you.”

“I’m not a baby.”

“You’re my baby,” he teases, kissing my cheek and still grinning like an idiot.

For being such a macho man, he’s always had a goofy side to him. I’d have a bad day, and he’d go out of his way to cheer me up at all costs. It’s these small gestures that remind me just how incredible he is.

“What are you thinking about?” he asks, sitting on the couch with me on his lap.

“Nothing,” I lie, smiling. “How was work?”

“Ugh. Don’t remind me,” he groans. “Hell. I shouldn’t be sitting on your couch. I’m dirty as hell and need to go take a shower.”

“You could go grab some clothes and come back over to shower,” I suggest.

My words aren’t even hesitant. They’re full of unwavering confidence that shouldn’t be there. We aren’t together. There’s no reason for us to spend any amount of time together. I swear I lose all sense of reasoning when Chance is around.

“You sure?” he asks with an eyebrow raised.

“Yes.”

“Alright. I’ll go grab some things real quick,” he says, standing with me in his arms. He sits me back down on the couch by myself. “You’re going to join me, right?”

His words are fain,t and he can barely look me in the eyes.

“If you hurry,” I wink. He laughs, kisses me swiftly on my lips, and then rushes toward the front door.

“Lock the door while I’m gone,” he calls out behind him.

“Oh, my gosh, Chance,” I laugh. “You aren’t going to be gone that long, and besides, I know the guys are hiding somewhere in the hallway.”

“True. True,” he admits with a chuckle. “I’ll be back.”

I use the time he’s gone to use the restroom and freshen up. There are three knocks on the door. The front door opens slowly, and Chance pops his head inside.
