The Scot just grinned and made a ‘come get me’ gesture with his fingers, two of the guys leaped on him. She gasped in horror.

This was terrible. Why wasn’t Cairn helping?

“He’s going to get hurt. You need to help him!” she cried.

Alejandro glanced back at her, looking blank. Why wasn’t he worried? Shouldn’t he be? Although his lack of worry helped calm her.

“Cairn,” Alejandro said as the third guy started to advance toward them.

Cairn stepped forward just as the guy drew a gun, pointing it at him.

“Jesus, these dicks are idiots,” Alejandro said impatiently. “I don’t have time for this. Put the gun away, and you might get to leave here alive.”

She made a noise filled with distress as the guy settled the gun on Alejandro. A sick feeling developed in her stomach, she didn’t know where this fear of guns had come from but she’d had it for as long as she could remember.

“I’m the one with the gun, asshole! All of you move away before I shoot you!”

Oh God! He was going to shoot Alejandro!

“Alejandro, you need to move.” She tried to tug at him. Obviously, he wasn’t going to protect himself, so she had to do it.

“Put that fucking gun away, you fucking idiot!” Alejandro snapped.

She was going to have to lecture him about safety when they got out of there.

If someone had a gun, you shouldn’t incite their attention or ire. You should run and hide.

The Scot threw off the second guy and she was shocked to see both men were now lying at his feet, unconscious.

Whoa. When had that happened?

“Boss? Can I have him?” The Scot looked at the guy with the gun hungrily.

Their last car jacker appeared nervous.

“Put the fucking gun down, idiot,” The Scot said. “You might have left here alive if you hadn’t aimed a gun at Alejandro De Leon.”

“Yeah, if anyone is going to shoot him, it’s going to be me!” she stated.

“Good to know,” Alejandro said dryly.

The guy paled. And she saw the moment he realized the seriousness of this situation. His mouth went slack-jawed.

“No, no. Fuck!” Throwing the gun, he turned and raced off.

“Well. That was anti-climactic,” she muttered.

“Want me to go after him, Boss?” The Scot asked.

“No, we don’t have time. We’re running late as it is.”

There was movement from one of the idiots lying on the pavement. He inched his hand over . . . to where the gun had landed. He grabbed it just as she drew in a breath to scream.

What the hell could she do? Without thinking, she dropped everything in her hands.

Except for one item. She took aim just as the guy sat up with the gun in his hand.

“Gun!” she screamed as she let the vibrator fly.

Cat had always been the pitcher whenever they played baseball at the Camp because of her throwing aim. The vibrator flew through the air in what seemed like slow motion, hitting the guy in the face just as Alejandro turned and grabbed her, pressing her back against the stairs to the apartment building.

A gunshot fired, making her scream.

“Shh, Pequeña. Quiet,” he said in a stern voice.

She tried to slow her breathing, but it came in harsh rasps, her entire body trembling as he held her.

“All clear, Boss,” The Scot said.

He turned them back, and she saw that the guy was now unconscious, and that The Scot had the gun.

The Scot grimaced. “Fuck. My bad.”

“Is anyone hurt?” Alejandro asked in a dark voice.

“Nah, this idiot just fired accidentally when the little one got him in the face with her . . . vibrator.” The Scot didn’t show any squeamishness as he picked up the bright red vibrator. “Ahh, lass, you didn’t get the kind with the rabbit ears? That’s the best one. And you can get one with a piece that tickles your asshole.”

“Scot!” Alejandro snapped as Cairn pulled both bodies off the sidewalk and into the alley. “Focus.”

“Yeah. Sorry. Should have caught on to the fact that idiot wasn’t fully unconscious. You okay, lass?” The Scot gave her a worried look.

Okay? Well, physically, she was. But emotionally, she was feeling pretty stressed.

“She’s fine. Don’t look at her,” Alejandro snarled.

The Scot immediately grew serious, nodding and pointedly glancing away from her. She stared up at Alejandro, ready to tell him what a dick he was being. But it wasn’t Alejandro, her fierce protector, staring down at her. It wasn’t even Alejandro, the arrogant Dom. This was Alejandro, the crime boss. And she understood that he wouldn’t take kindly to her going against him right now.

Cairn walked back over, but he didn’t say anything. He just walked to the car and got into the driver’s seat. He seemed to be a man of few words. Though she’d thought he might have had something to say about her flying vibrator.
