Within five minutes, everyone knew and was asking questions I didn’t have answers for. Thankfully, Dad came to my rescue.

“None of this. We’re having a party and we’re going to enjoy it,” he said, sitting a pile of steaks, burgers, and chicken skewers on the table. Mom and Ellie brought out an array of sides and Ezra kicked on music.

I was glad we weren’t going to sit around dwelling on it.

"So, now the interrogation begins, right?" my dad teased as he sat down to eat. My pack looked at each other nervously while Ezra and Mom started laughing, knowing he was just fucking with them.

They relaxed when Dad started asking questions. Mainly about their jobs. I couldn't help cracking up when he turned to Silas who paled under his attention.

"Did you give up the private investigator gig?" he questioned.

"We didn't," he said. "We weren't that bad, she didn't notice us for days."

"That doesn't help your case," Mom said, raising an eyebrow. He made a choking noise and shoved a bite in his mouth.

"Why do you want to do it?" Dad asked, his voice kinder now.

"When our brother disappeared we had a really hard time finding him. It took us a few weeks to track him down. Jackson was always good at computers so he used that while Amos and I followed a few leads. We made a good team. Though I don't think Lockwood will have much in the way of business," he pointed out, running a nervous hand through his dark hair. Even as he pushed it out of his eyes it fell right back into it. I felt bad for him, hating that the first impression he had with my parents was so rough. My hand moved to his thigh and he wrapped his fingers around mine, giving it a squeeze.

"We'll find something else," Jackson said simply. "We're here to stay."

Hearing it out loud had me biting back a smile.

"We have to focus on who's creeping on our omega first," Amos said.

My dad nodded in approval. "I was just thinking the same thing. You might just want to be a little more subtle next time."

Silas sighed. "I'm never living this down, am I?"

"Oh, absolutely not," Ezra said. "I'll keep an eye out at the diner for any newcomers. They're not hard to spot."

"We'll let Walter know, too," Kat said. She narrowed her eyes when I started to protest. I hated involving him in things like this. Not that he'd ever complain at the chance of knocking someone out for crossing one of his girls.

"Fine," I muttered, hating this.

“Maybe a couple of us should go ahead to the apartment," Vince suggested now that we'd all finished eating. "We walked there the other day. I'll admit, I was pretty wrapped up in our conversation and didn't notice anything off but anyone could have followed us."

"I'll go," Sawyer said.

"Me, too," Jackson and Amos both agreed.

Isaac rubbed the stubble on his chin, thinking it over.

"Maybe one of you guys can come with me and we'll take Serenity's car since she drove herself here. We'll drive off and see if anybody tails us.

"Then you're staying here while they do all that," my dad said firmly.

"You won't find me arguing."

Sawyer

I’ve never felt so uptight driving a car in my life. The entire drive to Serenity's apartment from her parents’ house my eyes swiveled at the traffic around me, looking for that red car.

Jackson must have noticed my nerves. He reached over and rested a hand on my thigh. Any other time, I would be turned on, right now I could do little more than give him a squeeze back.

"He's not following us yet," Amos announced. "I'm glad we didn't bring Serenity this time, though. He could be there waiting."
