We managed to park the car and make it upstairs without spotting anyone. Maybe he hadn't had a chance to find her apartment yet.

That was until we reached Serenity's floor and the old bat, Mrs. Bennet stuck her head out.

"You need to tell Serenity that I don't need to hear her men stomping up and down the hallway at all hours of the day and night."

We all froze.

"We've been gone all day, all of us," I clarified. She pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes.

"Then who was pacing outside her door for nearly an hour? He didn't even leave until I came out and gave him an earful."

My blood went cold as I looked at the guys.

He did know where she lived.

How long had this been going on?

"Did he say anything back to you?" I questioned. She must have noticed the intensity in my tone, her snarkiness had faded and now she even looked taken aback.

"No, not a word. He just left after taping something to your door," she admitted. I was honestly shocked she didn't read it.

She closed her door in our faces, apparently, done with the conversation.

Amos reached out and peeled off the white square from the door. He flipped it to find a picture.

"This is the same outfit she was wearing last night," Jackson pointed out. Even though his back was to us I'd recognize his broad shoulders and too tight shirt anywhere. Guess there was some merit to his earlier comment about walking home.

He was kissing Serenity in the picture and she was smiling up at him. It was intimate and felt a bit like we were witnessing a moment we shouldn't have.

"Well, this is disturbing," I sighed. Jackson moved closer to me and I gave his hand a squeeze. None of us liked where this was heading.

"She can't stay at her parents’ and if this man is a stranger in town, he could be at the inn. Where the hell are we going to go?" Jackson questioned.

"I'm not sure yet," Amos said quickly. "I’m going to check in with Isaac while you pack for her."

Jackson and I went to Serenity's room and searched out a bag. We found two tucked away in her closet, quickly filling them with an array of clothes, shoes, and essentials. Jackson went to the bathroom, adding in her makeup bag and toiletries.

Not wanting her to come back at all, I did a sweep of the apartment, grabbing anything that might be important.

Amos was off the phone by the time we finished bringing the bags out to the front hall.

"They didn't see anything, but Isaac agrees. We need somewhere to stay."

"The boat's not ready," I said. "Otherwise, it would be the perfect choice. We could just cancel a few charters."

"There are plenty of hotels in the area outside of Lockwood. We'll just have to find something nearby."

All I knew was that we had a big problem on our hands.

Serenity

“We have a surprise for you,” Isaac said, grinning from ear to ear. We were sitting at a table at a random diner a few miles outside of Lockwood. It was nothing like Ezra’s food and I found myself missing home already. We'd settled on staying at a motel for anonymity. It wasn't ideal but for now it was the only thing that felt safe.

We wouldn’t have gotten sleep otherwise.

Things with the stalker had quieted down even further with us away. We hadn't gotten anything since the picture. Just the thought of it made my skin crawl and I had to suppress a shudder.

Hmm, they had a surprise. It sounded like a great distraction.
