I swallowed hard at the thought. It sounded like they were trying to form a prison more than a home and I hated that. My stalker was going to taint one of our experiences that we'd never get back.

"No, I don't want us to buy a house like that. I'm fine with security and I'm okay with letting you guys protect me, but we're not turning it into a prison," I said firmly. "We don't let him influence our decisions. This is our home, not a temporary fix."

Isaac's nostrils flared as he took a few deep breaths, nodding once but giving me nothing else.

We’d just climbed back in the car when his phone began going off. He read the text and let out a breath of relief.

"They set us up a meeting at two today," he explained as he navigated toward the inn. That, alone, had some of his anger fading.

"Won't we have a ton of paperwork and preapproval's before we can see houses?" Admittedly, I had no clue how it worked.

"We already got it," Isaac said. "Right after we found you, we went to the bank and did what we had to do to get the ball rolling. We figured it was only a matter of time before it came up."

"You’d just met me then," I said, shocked. "What if I was insufferable?"

"Then we'd go back to sea," he laughed. "But I was fairly confident it was going to turn out just fine. Fate doesn't make mistakes, sunshine."

"We'll add you and the other guys’ finances into the mix," Oaks promised. "Or at least names to the deed."

"What the fuck, guys?" I breathed out, head still spinning from the news. They'd wanted me from the moment they met me, had gotten things in order to stay despite wanting to go. That was huge.

Isaac was unapologetic. "We figured we'd talk about it when you were ready. Plus, we didn't go buy a house without you."

I couldn't even be mad about just now finding out because it was working in our favor. The thought of going back to that apartment, even after it would be cleaned up and repaired, made my skin crawl.

As we drove through town, it felt like eyes were constantly on me. This was different than when Silas found me, now I knew the danger I was in.

My phone went off as we pulled into the parking lot of the inn. My stomach churned at the LPD on the screen.

"Hello, this is Serenity."

"This is Detective Grady. I'm glad I reached you. We learned you were out of town, are you back now? We should chat."

"We actually just got in, we're at the inn now," I explained.

"Perfect. I'm a block away." He hung up without warning.

"Apparently, he's on his way," I said to the guys. Oaks got out and went inside to collect the other guys. Everyone came out a few moments later, somber looks on their faces. We waited in silence until the detective pulled into the lot, parking next to us.

"Serenity, I presume?" He held out a hand to me and I shook it, shooting Isaac a glare when he growled. We needed this guy on our side.

Grady chuckled and waved it off. "Don't worry, your alpha is understandably on edge. One of our guys said you went by the apartment, so I know what you found."

"That was insane. how did no one call to report that level of noise?" I asked, getting right to the point.

He shifted on his feet, looking uncomfortable.

"There was a call from a neighbor, but we chalked it up to fake allegations. She had a history of calling once or twice a week for nearly a month. We were tired of sending guys out to find the hallway nearly silent."

"That old bat," Silas groaned. "Mrs. Bennet is a menace."

The detective grimaced at the name, confirming our suspicions.

"Did you guys find anything about who did it?"

"This note," he said, reaching into his pocket for an evidence bag. I didn't have to open it to read, the note laying flat inside.

My blood ran cold as I read the words on the torn page.
