“You don’t have to pay me back.”

“Mhmmm,” was all she said as they left the store.

She allowed Caleb to choose the restaurant. As she ate, he told her about the situation at the company.

“So, the scenes in those pictures were really taken out of context?” she asked.

“One was of me hitting an old man. When have you ever seen me disrespect my elders?”

He might’ve been a fucktard, but he was kind to the elderly and children.

“What really happened?”

“I was helping the man pick up items that had fallen out of his bag. He began coughing. I patted his back. I admit I was frowning in the picture. But I was frowning because I was wondering why his kids let him do his grocery shopping by himself, knowing he had to walk home with all those bags. I gave the man a ride home and helped him make dinner.”

“You did?”

“I did. Why are you smiling?”

Right. Why was she smiling? She schooled her face into a nonchalant expression. She couldn’t let the fact that he helped old people sway her.

“What about all of the women leaving your condo late at night?”

He frowned. “The front door clerk has been fired over that. He was accepting bribes and letting women enter the condo. They would wait in the hall and try to get my attention as I came and went. A few of those pictures are of me escorting them out of the building and threatening to call the cops.” He swallowed. “Tiera, I didn’t sleep with any of those women. I swear.”

Why was he staring at her like that?

“Your private life is not my concern.”

“I swear…”

“Just try to keep it private, okay?”

He sighed heavily.

“Now that I understand the situation better, I’m willing to help. I’ll be your secretary for two weeks.”

“Thank you, Tiera.”

“Yeah. Yeah. Eat. So, we can leave.”

She ignored the devilish grin he cast her way and tried her best to ignore the tingle that grin caused to race down her spine. It even made its way between her thighs. He picked up his fork.

Before taking a bite, he told her, “I seriously didn’t touch those women.”

“I don’t care if you did or didn’t. I only have to deal with you for two weeks, and then I’m done with you.” She forked another bite of food into her mouth.

She didn’t miss the tick in his jaw. Her words had angered him. So, what? Everything he did angered her. She resumed eating her food. She was only helping at all because her brother was part owner of the company, not because she felt sorry for Caleb.

Two weeks was her limit. By the end of those two weeks, she was sure she’d regret her decision. Boy, was she wrong. By the end of the first day, she was already threatening to stab Caleb in his ear.

CHAPTER 5

Tiera

I hate it here!

Tiera stared at the folders Caleb had just dumped on her desk.
